Historia
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

shockingly awful
Revisado: 10-10-23
Used to think the charges of various kinds of bias leveled against Stephen King were overblown until I read this book. Good lord. It trades in every imaginable stereotype while being simultaneously boring and preachy. Only got through it to see if it got better & it did but the bar was so low to start it never reached "good". Not scary, horrifically unoriginal & changed everything I thought about King. Skip this one.

series is so great but this was terrible

I'm a huge fan but this was a huge mistake. Enjoy the first 4 seasons. Do not make the mistake of listening to this one, it almost ruins everything.

so bad
Revisado: 04-16-21
Super racist, overly macho, sexist even for the time. In summary: poorly written, mediocre performance, total crap. Just watch the movie.

I'm Latinx and loved it
Revisado: 02-19-20
I've read the criticisms but was curious & that paid off. This book is worth the read. It is well written & wildly entertaining. I didn't find anything overtly offensive. It is a work of fiction, a fun, occasionally dramatic, overblown work of fiction & I loved it.

dated, racist & boring
Revisado: 02-15-20
It's not the time relevant references that bother me here, let's start with that. I get that the Japanese were the enemy, but the whole story relies so much on the white savior concept & belittles the hell out of so many of the non white characters using all the classic stereotypes & tropes. I couldn't finish it. There are many better WWII stories out there, don't waste your time.

TERRIBLE!!!!
Revisado: 05-22-12
What disappointed you about She: A History of Adventure?
BORING and dated. So dated as to be completely offensive to everyone but old white men. Stopped listening at the third to last chapter after realizing it would never get better. If I could give it less than 1 star I would. DON"T WASTE YOUR TIME!
What do you think your next listen will be?
Heaven's Keep by William Kent Krueger
What didn’t you like about Bill Homewood’s performance?
The performance was average, the accents & female voices were annoying at best.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Nope. Simply the worst book I have ever encountered. No wonder no one I know has ever heard of it.
