Historia
Today we think statistics are the enemy, numbers used to mislead and confuse us. That’s a mistake, Tim Harford says in The Data Detective. We shouldn’t be suspicious of statistics - we need to understand what they mean and how they can improve our lives: they are, at heart, human behavior seen through the prism of numbers and are often “the only way of grasping much of what is going on around us”.

But Locke is slowly succumbing to a deadly poison that no alchemist or physiker can cure. Yet just as the end is near, a mysterious Bondsmage offers Locke an opportunity that will either save him or finish him off once and for all.

Tough to get through
Revisado: 08-22-20
I really enjoyed the first two novels in this series. I almost didn't finish Republic of Thieves though and only then because reviews praised the second half of the novel.
Sadly I was never drawn into the story. I wish we could have learned more of Sabetha in the previous novels so the author could have focused more on the political scheming. Instead every time the plot starts to pick up steam we're thrown into flashbacks that seem to only serve the purpose of making us care for Locke and Sabetha's relationship.
Additionally the trials Locke, Jean and Sabetha face, as they point out, do not matter as they are just partaking in a game.
I do have hopes for future installments but would prefer short stories consisting of the young gentlemen bastards over interruptions to the "present."

Language defines us as a species, placing humans head and shoulders above even the most proficient animal communicators. But it also beguiles us with its endless mysteries, allowing us to ponder why different languages emerged, why there isn't simply a single language, how languages change over time and whether that's good or bad, and how languages die out and become extinct.

Historia
Set in present-day Los Angeles, Junk explores an epic conspiracy, one at work for thousands of years that involves total takeover of the planet Earth by aliens. In the wild, souped-up vision of Les Bohem - the acclaimed, Emmy-winning writer of the Steven Spielberg miniseries, Taken - the world is at the end stage of long-range plot that involves a gigantic genetic-engineering project. The aliens who have invaded us have no planet. No spaceship is coming. Instead, a small advance force comes, breeds, and dies - thus becoming an anomaly in our DNA that can’t be explained.

picked this up as over of the monthly freebies. so painful to get through. narrator can only deliver on one note. story just keeps getting crazier (as if a game of mad lib gone bad). really if you're just waiting for your credits to renew them relisten to one of your favorites instead.

The once-utopian Chasm City - a domed human settlement on an otherwise inhospitable planet---has been overrun by a virus known as the Melding Plague, capable of infecting any body, organic or computerized. Now, with the entire city corrupted - from the people to the very buildings they inhabit---only the most wretched sort of existence remains. The stakes are raised when Tanner Mirabel's search brings him face to face with a centuries-old atrocity that history would rather forget.

Meh... could have been better

the novel was fine. ending was rather evident around 2/3rds through the novel and story became boring after the umpteenth time all the events happened to just fall in favor of Tanner.
