Historia
"Before I knew that I was Jewish or a girl I knew that I was a member of the working class." So begins Vivian Gornick's exploration of how the world of socialists, communists, and progressives in the 1940s and 1950s created a rich, diverse world where ordinary men and women felt their lives connected to a larger human project.

Historia
A sweeping, magisterial biography of the man generally considered the greatest president of the 20th century, admired by Democrats and Republicans alike. Traitor to His Class sheds new light on FDR's formative years, his remarkable willingness to champion the concerns of the poor and disenfranchised, his combination of political genius, firm leadership, and matchless diplomacy in saving democracy in America during the Great Depression and the American cause of freedom in World War II.

ABRIDGED!
Revisado: 10-22-24
This is not the full length version of this audiobook! The for length version is 3x longer, and is available on Audible under the same title. Should be more clearly labeled.

Historia
In the century after the Civil War, an economic revolution improved the American standard of living in ways previously unimaginable. Electric lighting, indoor plumbing, home appliances, motor vehicles, air travel, air conditioning, and television transformed households and workplaces. With medical advances, life expectancy between 1870 and 1970 grew from 45 to 72 years. The Rise and Fall of American Growth provides an in-depth account of this momentous era.

Fantastic history with flawed proposals
Revisado: 06-09-23
In terms of economic history this book is fantastic— my only criticism is of the short postscript in which the author lays out a series of policy proposals to help encourage new American growth.
The author’s commitment to disproven blank-slate ideology is on full display. Contrary to liberal dreams, IQ is 80% genetic according to modern research. All of the educational programs and other egalitarian government interventions he proposes crash against that reality.
That said, if you are considering it, read this book!

Historia
From the best-selling author of Public Enemies and The Big Rich, an explosive account of the decade-long battle between the FBI and the homegrown revolutionary movements of the 1970s. The FBI combated these groups and others as nodes in a single revolutionary underground, dedicated to the violent overthrow of the American government. The FBI’s response to the leftist revolutionary counterculture has not been treated kindly by history, and in hindsight many of its efforts seem almost comically ineffectual, if not criminal in themselves.

Great story, very well told, but a few chapters too long
Revisado: 08-17-22
The second half of the book after the 60s and Vietnam calm down could’ve been more of a summary. In the stories about planting a bomb under a park bench eventually become repetitive. But overall recommended.

Historia
Imagine a blackout lasting not days, but weeks or months. Tens of millions of people over several states are affected. For those without access to a generator, there is no running water, no sewage, no refrigeration or light. Food and medical supplies are dwindling. Devices we rely on have gone dark. Banks no longer function, looting is widespread, and law and order are being tested as never before.

Technocrat / military-industrial complex fear-mongering transparently written to get some new suite of budget pork passed. Not to discount the danger of a grid failure, but I'd recommend finding something else to read on the topic.
If you have a 105 IQ and think the covid lab theory is 'racist' you'll love it.
