The highest compliment and recommendation for any book to me is when someone says they weren't ready for it to end.
This was one of those, very rare moments for me. when I wanted more at the end.

Delightful
Revisado: 09-14-22
I had never heard of this book until I came across a glowing review by Stephen Fry. The story is told , in turn, by the 50+ year old widowed concierge of a building in Paris and a journal-writing young girl who lives in one of the apartments
with her family. But that's just a brief bare- bones synopsis that doesn't do it justice.
However, I was a few short ,chapters into it before I realized how much I was enjoying it.. Both narrators do an excellent job, making the transition pass smoothly back and forth.
At the end of the book I felt as though it was suddenly evolving as a slow time-lapse film of a bdlossoming flower does in a nature video.
It's a delightful read!

Historia
Two men, each handsome and unusually adept at his chosen work, embodied an element of the great dynamic that characterized America’s rush toward the twentieth century. The architect was Daniel Hudson Burnham, the fair’s brilliant director of works and the builder of many of the country’s most important structures, including the Flatiron Building in New York and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The murderer was Henry H. Holmes, a young doctor who, in a malign parody of the White City, built his “World’s Fair Hotel” just west of the fairgrounds.

Disappointing
Revisado: 08-13-22
Great story idea but so much detail on the planning , politics and arguing of getting the huge fair built and running it seemed the murders were just another irrelevant happening on the side.

Historia
In 1909, Clementine steps off a train with her new husband, Winston. An angry woman emerges from the crowd to attack, shoving him in the direction of an oncoming train. Just before he stumbles, Clementine grabs him by his suit jacket. This will not be the last time Clementine Churchill will save her husband. Lady Clementine is the ferocious story of the ambitious woman beside Winston Churchill, the story of a partner who did not flinch through the sweeping darkness of war, and who would not surrender either to expectations or to enemies.

Historia
After living in Britain for two decades, Bill Bryson recently moved back to the United States with his English wife and four children. They were greeted by a new and improved America that boasts microwave pancakes, 24-hour dental-floss hotlines, and the staunch conviction that ice is not a luxury item. Delivering the brilliant comic musings that are a Bryson hallmark, I'm a Stranger Here Myself recounts his sometimes disconcerting reunion with the land of his birth.

Historia
In what may be Dickens's best novel, humble, orphaned Pip is apprenticed to the dirty work of the forge but dares to dream of becoming a gentleman - and one day, under sudden and enigmatic circumstances, he finds himself in possession of "great expectations." In this gripping tale of crime and guilt, revenge and reward, the compelling characters include Magwitch, the fearful and fearsome convict; Estella, whose beauty is excelled only by her haughtiness; and the embittered Miss Havisham, an eccentric jilted bride

Outstanding narrative!
Revisado: 05-24-22
I enjoy reading different genres, including the classics, but in this case Sinead Dixon was such a great narrator I enjoyed listening to the audio book more than reading the book myself, which is very rare for me. The. changing in tone and accents was excellent never sounding forced. Very well done!
