Historia
Since the early 1980s David Byrne has used a bicycle as his primary form of transportation, both at home in New York City and while on tour throughout the world. Initially drawn to cycling by the convenience and sense of liberation it affords, Byrne found that it also provided him with a varied perspective on the world—faster than a walk, slower than a train, slightly higher than a person. Narrated by Byrne, the Bicycle Diaries audiobook presents these collected accounts alongside original music and location sounds.

Talking Head
Revisado: 01-02-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Only my friends who are either big cycling enthusiasts, David Byrne fans, or environmentalists or preferably all three. I did not find it hugely engaging as a story. My mind would wander all too often while listening. I did enjoy learning more about David Byrne whose music and film have intrigued me in the past... more so in my youth and art school period, and was intrigued by the similar values we hold today. Yet, he was like a talking head... meaning like watching someone lecture without many visuals or the ability to be engaging. This is a case where it might do better if someone else were to narrate.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I liked the added bits of music and I enjoyed his voice more so toward the end when he finally relaxed into the reading. His voice seemed rather monotone at times, particularly in the beginning.
Was Bicycle Diaries worth the listening time?
Actually I think it was too long and I struggled to the end... a bit like riding up a big hill only to find there was no view once you arrived.

Revisado: 01-02-12
What made the experience of listening to A Lotus Grows in the Mud the most enjoyable?
It is beautifully produced with Goldie narrating in her soft yet silly and sophisticated voice that has always made me smile and feel warm inside. Musical interludes are a special icing on the cake that make it a true delight to listen to.
What other book might you compare A Lotus Grows in the Mud to and why?
None come to mind right off.
Which scene was your favorite?
There was no favorite, I enjoyed the whole ride.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes...I think I could have but I enjoyed savoring it.
Any additional comments?
Goldie Hawn is so light and delightful and exudes of passionate heart. Such a lovely inspiration. This book opened my eyes to the work she is doing now through the Hawn Foundation which I think is simply fantastic!! Thank you Goldie for being an inspiration.

You think you "know" a celebrity...
Revisado: 01-02-12
Would you consider the audio edition of Untied to be better than the print version?
Yes, I think it is quite possibly more authentic since it is her story read in her voice, and since she has a voice I like and recognize from the tv is brings a more personal element to it. I felt like I was listening to a friend.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Untied?
Now I wish I had the book so that I could quickly flip back through and remind myself since it has been weeks since I finished it. Therefore the most memorable moments were the overall feelings of surprise that she was so naive yet I saw her as a role model mom when I was growing up.
Have you listened to any of Meredith Baxter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, not aware she had any others.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, I listen as I walk the dog so that would be a very long walk.
Any additional comments?
My thanks to Meredith (as we apparently are now on first name basis since I read the book! ha!) for sharing such intimate information about her life. I work with people and their emotions and this will be a book I am sure to recommend. Biographies are a useful tools to learn about people and how they have found their path to success which is so often not the path that people expect. I love the surprise of who I think they are vs who they are through their own eyes. It reinforces how many assumptions we make, good or bad, about people every day. I hear so many young people stating the desire to be famous and feel they really could benefit from knowing the truth behind the characters we see on the screen.
