Historia
After a body turns up in the sleepy village of Rufford, Detective Walker returns from his leave of absence early, his experience deemed crucial for the case. But when it transpires the crime may be linked to a decades old cold case involving the murder of his sister, the crime becomes personal: he needs this—for his wife and kids, to make amends for past mistakes, and for the current victim—but he must toe the line if he isn’t to be thrown off the case.

Cool story. Not great narrator.
Revisado: 03-14-25
Loved the story and characters. But the way the narrator did read the female voices was awful,

Historia
When Alan Maimon got the assignment in 2000 to report on life in rural Eastern Kentucky, his editor at the Louisville Courier-Journal told him to cover the region "like a foreign correspondent would." And indeed, when Maimon arrived in Hazard, Kentucky, fresh off a reporting stint for the New York Times's Berlin bureau, he felt every bit the outsider. He had landed in a place in the vice grip of ecological devastation and a corporate-made opioid epidemic - a place where vote-buying and drug-motivated political assassinations were the order of the day.

Off track after chapter 4
Revisado: 09-07-23
Tells a very myopic version of life in south eastern Kentucky for the first four chapters. After chapter 4 rambles on with clear political bias and goes off topic.
