Historia
Afi Tekple is a young seamstress in Ghana. She is smart; she is pretty; and she has been convinced by her mother to marry a man she does not know. Afi knows who he is, of course—Elikem is a wealthy businessman whose mother has chosen Afi in the hopes that she will distract him from his relationship with a woman his family claims is inappropriate. But Afi is not prepared for the shift her life takes when she is moved from her small hometown of Ho to live in Accra, Ghana’s gleaming capital, a place of wealth and sophistication where she has days of nothing to do but cook meals.

unique, touching, interesting and emotional

I was drawn to this story from the get go, the setting, the mystery at the begging and the simple life that were depicted. I loved afi's growth and strength. I felt like I could feel her emotions throughout this story. the delivery was wonderful. highly highly recommend

Historia
It’s been five years since the accident that killed the love of her life and she’s almost a new person now—an artist with her own studio and sharing a brownstone apartment with her ride-or-die best friend, Joy, who insists it’s time for Feyi to ease back into the dating scene. Feyi isn’t ready for anything serious, but a steamy encounter at a rooftop party cascades into a whirlwind summer she could have never imagined: a luxury trip to a tropical island, decadent meals in the glamorous home of a celebrity chef, and a major curator who wants to launch her art career.

surprising
Revisado: 06-12-22
the book was mesmerizing, I couldn't stop reading, rather listening. although the plot is interesting and the book is incredibly interesting the characters are poorly developed. I found it hard to connect with them, each one of the characters only had one dimension, no depth, no empathy, and honestly this was not friendship. I wanted a story about real alliances, real connection and friendship, but the story was more a thriller then a deep human connection exploration. although I do believe the characters were poorly written, the story is interesting and i would still recommend it.

good but not great
Revisado: 04-02-22
I previously read the fisherman by chigoze obioma and loved it, I expected this book to be as appealing or even more, but i was disappointed. I did love the book, especially the way the author incorporated the so called chi, but i found the story to be exhausting in many ways. i couldn't connect to the main character, he just seemed to be spineless, predictable and boring. the main female character wasn't explored enough and the focus on the least interesting parts while skipping others, didn't make much sense to me.

In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

I was already a huge fan of Trevor
Revisado: 12-06-21
after reading this book I admire this man and his mother. incredible story!
this book is a window to trevor's complicated childhood as an interracial kid in apartheid. beyond the fact that this book is an interesting story about being a child in South Africa, this book is a great way to understand the real life experiences of black and brown people in apartheid. trevor's reading is so entertaining and he has this incredible ability to use humour to describe the toughest of times.
I totally enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it!!
