Historia
Change is coming to Sweden’s far north: its untapped natural resources are sparking a gold rush with the criminal underworld leading the charge. But it’s not the prospect of riches that brings Lisbeth Salander to the small town of Gasskas. She has been named guardian to her niece Svala, whose mother has disappeared. Two things soon become clear: Svala is a remarkably gifted teenager—and she’s being watched.

disappointing and tedious
Revisado: 09-03-23
As others have mentioned, the story is all over the place, the characters are two dimensional, and Lizbeth (who barely features in this story) is no longer believable as "Lizabeth". Tedious. Poor writing. Simon Vance could read the phone book and it make it sound interesting, but not even he can save this.

Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

… and a lot of bad language filling in for what could have been described more artfully as genuine suffering. I am so disappointed, and not even halfway though, thoroughly exhausted.

disappointing
Revisado: 09-11-21
I thought it was about 8 chapters too long, and nowhere near her usual standard of good storytelling. A bit tedious, a bit sentimental.

This is a really good story. Fun, interesting, captivating, challenging. And Simon Vance? Well, he could read the phone book and I'd be enchanted. Altogether a great listen that I was sorry ended.

Historia
In a strange room in Morocco, Mary Russell is trying to solve a pressing mystery: Who am I? She has awakened with shadows in her mind, blood on her hands, and soldiers pounding on the door. Out in the hivelike streets, she discovers herself strangely adept in the skills of the underworld, escaping through alleys and rooftops, picking pockets and locks. She is clothed like a man, and armed only with her wits and a scrap of paper containing a mysterious Arabic phrase. Overhead, warplanes pass ominously north.

Mixed readers a bad idea
Revisado: 03-02-19
I love the way Jenny Sterlin has developed voice and character in her reading. Each character in the story has a unique and recognizable voice and, by book 12, I've really grown accustomed to them. Mackenzie is a fine reader, but his voice as Holmes is a whole other experience that is not blending well Jenny's Mary. It was too grating for me, producing a kind of an aural whiplash, if you know what I mean. Had to send it back.

Be Forewarned....
Revisado: 03-25-15
Would you try another book from Jussi Adler-Olsen and/or Steven Pacey?
This book has ALREADY been offered under the title The Marco Effect. The story is great, and I love this author. So I was very excited to see a new title!! But sadly, it is new in title alone. I was so disappointed. If you haven't heard book 5, then definitely get this. But if you're an Adler-Olsen fan just check that you haven't already purchased book 5. (This isn't the first time I've run into this so of thing with audio books.)

A major audiobook about the future of the world, blending intellectual and natural history and field reporting into a powerful account of the mass extinction unfolding before our eyes. Over the last half a billion years, there have been five mass extinctions, when the diversity of life on Earth suddenly and dramatically contracted. Scientists around the world are currently monitoring the sixth extinction, predicted to be the most devastating extinction event since the asteroid impact that wiped out the dinosaurs.

not so great
Revisado: 02-12-14
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The reviews of the written version of this book are great, and I had hoped that the audible version would be great as well. But it was not. If it had been read by the author, as the Prologue was, then it would have been easier for me to listen to. The reader of the rest of it has a very pretty voice, but I think it is better suited to dramatic fiction rather than science or journalism.
