Historia
England, 1914. The world is at war. Captain Hastings, injured and shaken, is invited to Styles Court to recover. It’s a grand old country house - the family home of his old friend - and a perfect haven. Or so it seems. But in the blistering summer heat, trouble is afoot. Simmering tensions are tearing the family apart, and it all comes to a head in the most horrifying way.

Dramatization brings the story to life
Revisado: 03-31-25
The voice actors all did a good job acting out this classic Agatha Christy story.
At times, the Belgian accent was a little dodgy but, otherwise, Peter Dinklage was excellent in catching Poirot’s essence.
As compared to the character as written by Ms. Christy, I felt this reading of Hastings was a little too over the top at times, perhaps the screenplay hoped to emphasize his probably PTSD but, this and Poirot’s pointed reactions caused this ‘everyman’ character to cross the line from relatable comedic relief into whining at times. There were moments when I thought that this interpretation of Hastings was misdirected, otherwise the adaptation of the screenplay and the acting was excellent. Great job bringing this story to life.

Sweet story for young and old
Revisado: 07-12-24
Richard Ayoade’s, The Book That No One Wanted to Read is a sweet delight that is capable of inspiring the creative imagination in young and old a like.
Listening to the Audible Book version provided the additional joy of listening to the author’s wonderful voice and considerable narration skills as well. Lydia Fox is a perfect reading partner to represent the human in this delightful presentation.

Nice retelling of the Dr Who TV story
Revisado: 04-12-24
I enjoyed hearing one of my favorite, classic Dr Who tv scripts. Tom Baker is a wonderful actor and has one of the best voices in the world. The story tugs at the heart strings. Even a sweet robot is no match for evil scientists!

Historia
Set against the bloody background of the French Revolution, this is perhaps Dickens' most famous work. Doctor Manette, his devoted daughter Lucie, and the young French aristocrat Charles Darnay are memorable characters. Above all the others rises the reckless Sidney Carton, whose selfless love makes him one of literature's great heroes.

I was excited when the search results included, 'A Tale of Two Cities.’
What could be better than Tom Baker reading Charles Dickens?
Now I know that better thing would be, Tom Baker reading all of a work by Charles Dickens.

Very enjoyable audiobook
Revisado: 07-23-23
Camille Coduri is an excellent voice actor. It’s amazing how many good actors are not good at reading out loud. Camille overcomes her light voice and proves herself excellent in both genres.
The author, Jenny T. Colgan, is also to be commended for an excellent job expanding this TV screenplay into an enjoyable book that neatly expands this TV episodes story line.
Does the T in Jenny’s name have the same meaning as the “T” in Russell T. Davies name? 😊
As a long time Whovian, I was not disappointed with this audio version of, “The Christmas Invasion.”

Before Shrek made it big on the silver screen, there was William Steig's Shrek!, a book about an ordinary ogre who leaves his swampy childhood home to go out and see the world. Ordinary, that is, if a foul and hideous being who ends up marrying the most stunningly ugly princess on the planet is what you consider ordinary.

Cute book
Revisado: 07-03-23
This very short story, is as cute as Shrek is “repulsive” and it’s poetic language makes it a fun read.
It’s clearly a template for the many Shrek movies and I am awed by the creativity the movie’s screen play writers displayed in development of the book into the Shrek movie.
