Endless
Revisado: 12-26-23
I found the storyline hard to follow with its endless to and fro between London and Italy. The love interest story line is preposterous to the point of seeming like satire. Have I just outgrown this series, or has it jumped the shark?

Beautiful story, beautifully read.

I loved the way it evokes a specific time and yet is a timeless story of growing up, growing old; of opportunities lost and found.

Historia
Who in the quiet village of Chipping would kill wealthy spinster Idris Campanula? Plenty of people—among them her fellow cast members from a troubled charity production. Miss Campanula was a spiteful gossip, gleefully destroying others’ lives merely for her own excitement. But once Inspector Roderick Alleyn arrives, he quickly realizes that the murderer might have killed the wrong woman—and may soon stage a repeat performance.

Classic Marsh

The narration is top notch and although the story droops a bit in the middle, has a solid plot and dependably recognizable character types.

A good story
Revisado: 08-09-22
A well written story with believable point of view of a child. Unfortunately the narrator uses such an extremely annoying cartoonish child’s voice for the character of Clara that it was hard to listen to.

Historia
"How wonderful to be an artist and a woman in the twentieth century," Fleur Talbot rejoices. Loitering about London in 1949, with intent to gather material for her writing, Fleur finds a job "on the grubby edge of the literary world", as secretary to the odd Autobiographical Association. Are they a group of mad egomaniacs, hilariously writing their memoirs in advance, or poor fools ensnared by a blackmailer? Rich material, in any case.

An interesting novel with an autobiographical slant and metafiction layers. Sparks characters are eccentric and not particularly relatable, but her writing about writing, and being a female writer during that era, are well drawn.
