Historia
For Rose Gardner, working at the DMV on a Friday afternoon is bad even before she sees a vision of herself dead. She's had plenty of visions, usually boring ones like someone's toilet's overflowed, but she's never seen one of herself before. When her overbearing momma winds up murdered on her sofa instead, two things are certain: There isn't enough hydrogen peroxide in the state of Arkansas to get that stain out, and Rose is the prime suspect.

I'm trying to get past the narration
Revisado: 05-03-16
Several hours into this book I'm trying to stick it out. The "southern" fried accent is part valley girl part hillbilly, combined with atrocious mispronunciations. Like smolding rage instead of smoldering, macrabe task instead of macabre, weary look instead of wary look, and now "he eluded an aurora" instead of exuded an aura??? See, I've even taken to stopping and writing them down. I think I'll switch to the kindle version. The story is almost engaging, but not worth the distractions. Doesn't anyone proof the recordings? incredible.

The lines. No ship can traverse the void without them. Only linesmen can work with them. But only Ean Lambert hears their song. And everyone thinks he's crazy.... Most slum kids never go far, certainly not becoming a level 10 linesman like Ean. Even if he's part of a small and unethical cartel, and the other linesmen disdain his self-taught methods, he's certified and working. Then a mysterious alien ship is discovered at the edges of the galaxy.

I quite enjoyed the main story line, but had trouble following the arcs that ran alongside. Too many characters, too many sub-plots I just didn't care about, even though I knew they'd all intersect eventually. (written by the Mrs.)

not up to expectation
Revisado: 07-20-15
Ordinarily I avoid zombie stories...I read all other kinds of fantasy and sci-fi, but draw the line at zombies. I risked this one based on all the glowing reviews. It's an O.K. story, but very predictable. Plague strikes, survivors struggle, the world adapts. I struggled to finish it, and when finished my husband asked if I recommended he listen to it...I said no, don't bother. Maybe it stands out in the zombie genre, but it just reinforces my avoidance.
Perhaps my listening was jaded by the fact that I finished listening to "The Stand" by Stephen King a few weeks ago. If you want to spend a credit and a good chunk of your audio allotment, you'd be better off there.

Agatha Award-winning author Rhys Bowen’s charming combination of intrigue and romance blended with a touch of humor shines when performed by Audible Hall of Fame narrator Katherine Kellgren, whose deft range and impeccable accent work make it hard to believe this isn’t a multicast performance.

I kept wait for the "spyness" part to develop. It never did. Basically just a regency-style novel with a bit of mystery attached and moved into the 20th century. I won't buy any sequels. (submitted by the female of the household, definitely chick-lit)

Historia
There isn't much fun in the sun when a billionaire real estate tycoon is found murdered on the Tilt-a-Whirl at a seedy seaside amusement park in the otherwise quiet summer tourist town of Sea Haven. John Ceepak, a former MP just back from Iraq, has just joined the Sea Haven police department. The job offer came from an old Army buddy who hoped to give Ceepak at least a summer's worth of rest and relaxation to help him forget the horrors of war. Instead, Ceepak will head up the murder investigation.

A good ride for the money
Revisado: 02-01-14
Bought this as a daily deal, am now glad to have found another series that's fun to listen to on long drives. At first was not too thrilled with the main character, but Grabenstein's portrayal of him grew on me until I was quite hooked. Am in the middle of the second in the series now, both me and my spouse laugh out loud at the clever reparte between characters. Try it, you'll like it.

Historia
Picking up from A Discovery of Witches' cliff-hanger ending, Shadow of Night takes reluctant witch Diana Bishop and vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont on a trip through time to Elizabethan London, where they are plunged into a world of spies, magic, and a coterie of Matthew's old friends, the School of Night. As the search for Ashmole 782—the lost and enchanted manuscript whose mystery first pulled Diana and Matthew into one another's orbit—deepens and Diana seeks out a witch to tutor her in magic, the net of Matthew's past tightens around them.

If you like a strong female lead, keep looking
Revisado: 10-08-12
This is a long, long, story with a heroine you'd like to smack upside the head. I invested in it hoping the possibilities presented in book #1 would mature, but they didn't. Because it took place mostly in Elizabethan England, it kept my interest enough to stick it out. The audio presentation was good, at least. The secondary characters were interesting and sympathetic, unlike the heroine. It seemed quite unlikely that a Harvard educated PhD teaching at Cambridge was too poorly self disciplined to master her own talents, or to research her own abilities. Add to that she was a milksop in the face of conflict, well I won't waste my money on #3...

wow, what a story!
Revisado: 12-31-11
this was so much better than the Audible description led me to expect. The narration was super, I found myself thinking how much I would have lost by reading rather than listening. It is a story of self discovery, family, humanity and acceptance. A NOVEL I will remember for a long time. Worth every moment of listening.

A good story to pass the time while driving or exercising, altho occasionally I got lost in detail. Really nice narration, I'll get the sequel just because it was so well done and I have a lot of windshield time ahead of me.
