Historia
The Pillars of the Earth tells the story of Philip, prior of Kingsbridge, a devout and resourceful monk driven to build the greatest Gothic cathedral the world has known...of Tom, the mason who becomes his architect - a man divided in his soul...of the beautiful, elusive Lady Aliena, haunted by a secret shame...and of a struggle between good and evil that will turn church against state, and brother against brother.

A favorite of mine for decades.
Revisado: 01-13-23
This has always been one of my favorites tales. I notice that a small minority of reviewers are a bit squeamish with regard to the graphic portrayals of violence in this work, but these characters lived in a violent age. The story is set during a time when men fought wars such that one could feel the breath and smell the sweat of his enemy. The age was, and this story is, close up and personal. It's not terribly unlike Bernard Cornwall's Saxon Tales or Grail Quest sagas. I'm very fond of the heroes in this story. I especially like Tom Builder and Prior Phillip. I like to think that there are some people that are determined enough to resist abuses of power and the misfortunes that may happen in life. I enjoy complex story lines that weave in multiple characters and follow them over long periods of time. "Pillars" reminds me of Edward Rutherfurd's "Sarum" or Bernard Cornwell's "Stonehenge". There is a reason this is widely considered to be Follett's magnum opus and I certainly enjoy reading it and listening to it.

Calvinism: What Love is This? by Dave Hunt

Historia
Many sincere, Bible-believing Christians are "Calvinists" only by default. Thinking that the only choice is between Calvinism (with its presumed doctrine of eternal security) and Arminianism (with its teaching that salvation can be lost), and confident of Christ's promise to keep eternally those who believe in Him, they therefore consider themselves to be Calvinists. It takes only a few simple questions to discover that most Christians are largely unaware of what John Calvin and his early followers of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries actually believed and practiced. Nor do they fully ...

The sleepy, eastern Washington wheat town of Antioch has become a gateway for the supernatural - from sightings of angels and a weeping crucifix to a self-proclaimed prophet with an astounding message. The national media and the curious all flock to the little town - a great boon for local business but not for Travis Jordan.

I think this book might be enjoyed more by charismatics than by members of mainline denominations. Besides, I'm very fond of "old time religion".

Historia
This volume of short essays and other pieces by C. S. Lewis is part of a larger collection, C. S.Lewis: Essay Collection and Other Short Pieces. In addition to his many books, letters, and poems, C. S. Lewis wrote a great number of essays and shorter pieces on various subjects. He wrote extensively on Christian theology and the defense of faith but also on ethical issues and the nature of literature and storytelling. This audiobook is a treasure trove of Lewis' reflections on diverse topics.

Well reasoned. Presented in the thoughtful and informed manner that we expect from Lewis. It's interesting, how that after hearing several of Audible's Lewis offerings, that I have come to substitute Mr. Cosham's voice for that of the author himself.

In the year 937, the new king of England, a grandson of Alfred the Great, readies himself to go to war in the north. His dream of a united kingdom of all England will stand or fall on one field - on the passage of a single day. At his side is the priest Dunstan of Glastonbury, full of ambition and wit (perhaps enough to damn his soul). His talents will take him from the villages of Wessex to the royal court, to the hills of Rome - from exile to exaltation.

Historia
The modern apologetics classic that started it all is now completely revised and updated - because the truth of the Bible doesn't change, but its critics do. With the original Evidence That Demands a Verdict, best-selling author Josh McDowell gave Christian audiences the answers they needed to defend their faith against the harshest critics and skeptics. Now, with his son Sean McDowell, Josh McDowell has updated and expanded this classic resource for a new generation. This is a book that invites listeners to bring their doubts.

I would like to be able to navigate by chapter. Each chapter should be labeled. With the audiobook you get section 1 and a time duration, section two and the time duration, section 3 and a time duration. Not helpful and I am finding this on other audible purchases.
