Historia
Helena Pearson. Undeniably beautiful... indisputably rich... incredibly wanton... the perfect client for Travis McGee. He did a big favor for her husband and then for the lady herself. Now Helena is dead, and McGee finds out that she had one last request to make of him: find out why her beautiful daughter, Maurie, keeps trying to kill herself. So, half-convinced that Maurie needs a good doctor and not a devil-may-care beach bum, McGee makes his way to the prosperous town of Fort Courtney, Florida, a respectable, booming, deadly little place.

John D MacDonald- & Travis McGee
Revisado: 07-28-24
There's a reason why many of America's most celebrated story tellers and successful Authors hold Me MacDonald in such high esteem. His writing, is sheer, genius. I be ead the series at least 4 times over the past 3 decades and was thrilled when I found the estate hired a narrator and story teller of such immense talent as Mr. Petkoff. I've often been sorely disappointed to discover a book I thoroughly enjoyed reading was a disaster in Audio form. Mr. Petkoff is a man of many voices. He never overdoes it though. He nails the legendary Travis McGee and each character, male or female, is near pitch perfect. I grew up in the South Florida not that far from where Travis McGee's houseboat was moored. That Florida is gone, forever, buried under crowds and concrete, sold long ago, to the highest bidder. I read the other day(in July 2024), it's gotten so expensive, the millionaires are being driven out by the billionaires. The last time I drove down was in the mid 90s, and it was so over built, over priced, and over congested then, I vowed Id never go back. I happily break that vow, every time I spend some time, with Travis McGee!

Historia
Truckers have long been ingrained in the American popular imagination, celebrated in movies like Smokey and the Bandit and many a country-western ballad. They're also a favorite queer sexual icon, joining such types as sailors, cops, firemen, and other guys who "service society". For some gay men, life on the road conjures up images of hairy, sweaty, blue-collar joes traveling from town to town in their big 18-wheelers, pulling into all-night diners, gas stations, cheap motels, and highway rest stops for sex.
