Witches, pixies, ghosts and murder
Revisado: 03-12-22
All my favorite things in one book! Victorian Era London setting with a witchy "Scotland yard" in the mix.
It may have taken me a few chapters to really get hooked but by the middle I couldn't hit the pause.
Great voices provided by the narration.
I will really look forward to seeing the next book.
A definite recommendation for anyone seeking a magical murder mystery and then some.

so so
Revisado: 05-23-21
Not a knock you off your feet series starter but it kept grabbing my intention.
I have no problem with either narrator and believe that they portray all characters very well. Narrators tend to get a bit wobbly with the elfin language delivery.
I am moving on to the next book and perhaps I can put into words what feels a bit "so so."
Great world, great narrators, great to good storyline
If you're into fantasy give it a go

Different and interesting, not what I expected
Revisado: 03-17-21
The performances were great no problem there at all. Perhaps a bit slow at times, each story is different.
I thought perhaps this was a gathering of the same Brothers Grimm stories I am used to but without the editing for the kiddos.
I don't know if the description was clear on exactly what the collection includes. I'm a sucker for mythology and fairy tales so I went for it.
It's pretty good, some total twists on set in stone stories. Some stories I suspect are polish and irish and told differently. Then stories that just take a premise of myth perhaps and then say ,"what if it went like this instead."
A couple stories with some crazy sex in it, one in particular but I can't remember which at the moment.
It's worth a listen for the great ones and skip what you don't like. I enjoyed most of it.

Revisado: 10-12-20
The humor , the action, the drama!
If you still have the heart of a child or at least a middle schooler in you , all of Riordan's books are fun listening.
Robbie Daymond is excellent with the performance of Apollo and the many characters throughout the Trials of Apollo.
The characters called Troglodytes are a special narration that you can't miss.
You can't start from this book you must start from the beginning.
Highly recommend

Magic made real
Revisado: 10-02-20
Magic and action is happening throughout this entire story.
Deidre goes on a journey to understand her father's journal. Deidre also becomes closely involved with the mountaineers. Marty does a little time traveling too and NO ONE made any "Back to the Future" movie jokes!? Copyright issues I suppose...
This second installment of the Monarch Papers I did enjoy more that the first, Monarch Papers, Flora and Fauna.
The first really didn't grab me entirely throughout till the last chapters.
The line from Martin in book 1 stating that ," everything you're about to read really happened " and "magic is real."
That line and so much more kept me hooked if I felt things were moving too slow.
The narrator J.R. Moorland did a great job.
Martins gritty , low NY voice is perfect. Then there is Deidre's light Irish accent. Great job separating different characters with a different accent considering there are lot of different people in the mountineers.
I highly recommended the Monarch Papers both 1 and 2. It's mystery and magic in the real world.
A great book to escape into and keeps you wondering.

Witches, Fairies, French
Revisado: 06-19-20
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from the very beginning.
The author again picks up with a magical transformation in action and a couple of characters on the run as in The Vine Witch.
The action in the beginning is just the type of hook to get you drawn to the story.
I never expected our new secondary main character to have the special brand of power she does and it's exciting finding out.
My favorite part is near the end when Yvette meets her extrodinariary Grandfather! Wow!!
I also enjoy how our originl heroine Elena meets her mother-in-law and how all that follows between them is quite unexpected.
I'm delighted that the same narrator from The Vine Witch Susannah Jones continues with The Glamorist. She has just the right tone for what I expect Elena to sound like and she plays the other characters very well.
If you like witches, magic, the fae, and the city of France still hot from the revolution then you will love this book.

I enjoy all the narrators. The Six of Crows duology makes me want to go to Kettrdam and eat waffles with the whole crew.
I just know these characters so well. Everytime I catch feelings about them and hate to see them go there on ways.
I hope you learn to love them all as well.
Just a shout out to the narrator who plays Wylan. I really enjoy how he makes the character "Kaz" sound like Jack Nicholson.

Very witchy and not a dull moment.
Revisado: 10-07-19
You are head first into the story from word one and the backstory comes as you go along.
A very memorable moment is when the main character is transforming from toad into a human and her legs become two giant toad legs!
There is some historical backgrounds given to the times of the inquisition and witch trials.
I am not up on how wine is made but I do believe the author had a good understanding of the process to write this book.
There is just so much I could mention but expect a lot more than just talking about making wine.
There is more than just witches in the book as well... gargoyles, and jinnis, and demons Oh my!!!
So much to enjoy in this book. It's well narrated and there's a twist at the end.
Get it youll love it!

Historia
Spanning eras and cultures from ancient Rome to medieval England to 1950s Hollywood, Jennifer Wright's It Ended Badly guides you through the worst of the worst in historically bad breakups. In the throes of heartbreak, Emperor Nero had just about everyone he ever loved - from his old tutor to most of his friends - put to death. Oscar Wilde's lover, whom he went to jail for, abandoned him when faced with being cut off financially from his wealthy family.

Jennifer Wright is so much fun!
Revisado: 07-10-19
After listening to Wright's, "Get Well Soon: History's Worst Plagues and the Heroes Who Fought Them," I had to have more!
Jennifer Wright uses witty sarcasm, snarkiness, and humor to make history memorable and enjoyable. I think it's obvious she clearly enjoys her work.
The book isn't all laughs. There are moments in between chapters where she might talk about life and the lessons we can learn. That love is possible for all.
She is much better however in conveying this concept and more and doesn't over sell it.
I recommend all Jennifer Wright's book's to anyone who likes their history with blunt facts, some outrageously funny and/or possibly horrible anecdotes, with a few bits of bad language and don't forget the witty sarcasm.
I like my history shaken not stirred, dirty with 3 olives...
All in good fun!
The narrator reads just how I picture the author sounds but probably doesn't, still.
Hillary Huber does a great job and gets 5 stars!

Really liked the twist on history where Native Americans rule what is North America. Then all the other characters from different stories pop up as our main character becomes more confident.
<A BIT OF SPOILAGE>
The characters from a known mythos are presented in their natural setting. I filled in my minds eye how through the years a storyteller might turn the Allfather's two human advisors Huginn and Muninn into something else entirely because they wear black , flap their cloaks, and are described as being able to "see all".
Plus having real ravens as advisors makes the story more interesting!
In this story the humans worked.
<<SPOILAGE OVER!>>
I enjoyed it immensely and the narrator Emily Rankin is great.
This is just my kind of tale. Twists on history, known myth, and fairytales but not depending on those stories too much. Just great!
