Fascinating historical fiction
Revisado: 10-18-22
Wonderful story of a family finding their origins and discovering secrets long buried because of so much personal and political trauma. Intensely sad and miraculous at times, and most definitely worth reading.

Rather dark story

Really well-built narrative that slowly pulls you in, building up to the twist at the end that takes your breath away. Truly hard to put down after a while. Excellent story, narration. Somewhat creepy but well worth your time.

Captivating tale of modern discontent
Revisado: 02-13-21
Good character development and a fascinating story involving a family and a displaced young girl. The varied responses to the issues at hand, revealing of underlying divergent values comprise the backbone of this yarn. My only disappointment was the quick happy ending that seemed unlikely. More story and a more complex solution would have been nice.

Historia
James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

Present day native narrative
Revisado: 01-21-20
Sad but compelling story of a native son from Alaska who somehow finds himself afoul of the law. Written and narrated by a fellow native man seeking the truth. No illusions here about his crimes but complications make it a truly mysterious story.

Historia
Between the world wars, no sport was more popular, or more dangerous, than airplane racing. Thousands of fans flocked to multi-day events, and cities vied with one another to host them. The pilots themselves were hailed as dashing heroes who cheerfully stared death in the face. Fly Girls recounts how a cadre of women banded together to break the original glass ceiling: the entrenched prejudice that conspired to keep them out of the sky.

Chilling and honest investigation into a very sad culmination of desperation.

I appreciate the willingness to seek answers beyond the commonly accepted in spite of all odds. So often neither family nor victims realize just how deep seated is the distress of a controlled individual.

Historia
It’s rumoured that Dickens wanted to return to his classic novel Oliver Twist, to bring him back into a later book as an older character, but he never managed this before he died. However, if Oliver had returned, what would he have been like? Would the scars of his childhood affect the man he would become? And what of ‘Dodger’, sent to a land halfway around the world, his friend, mentor and master dead because of Oliver? Dodge & Twist is that story. The tale of two boys, 12 years later, returning into each other’s lives - for both good and bad.

Great sequel to an old classic
Revisado: 03-04-19
Intricately woven and well done conclusion to Oliver Twist that Dickens would have been proud to acknowledge. Lots of action and surprises. Characters true to form yet far from predictable. I truly enjoyed this book.
