Historia
Babs Dionne, proud Franco-American, doting grandmother, and vicious crime matriarch, rules her small town of Waterville, Maine, with an iron fist. She controls the flow of drugs into Little Canada with the help of her loyal lieutenants, girlfriends since they were teenagers, and her eldest daughter, Lori, a Marine vet struggling with addiction. When a drug kingpin discovers that his numbers are down in the upper northeast, he sends a malevolent force, known only as The Man, to investigate.

Interesting Premise
Revisado: 11-13-17
This is a great story of the unrealized consequence of the internet on the porn industry. The porn producers saw the gold at the end of the rainbow, when the internet became so popular. This pot of gold magically disappeared when a website called "pornhub" was started. This is the story of the creator of "free porn" on the internet, and the many unforeseen circumstances. It actually paints the porn industry participants as victims of the very technology that was going to make them rich! Audible 20 Review Sweepstakes

Historia
Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in "The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas". As her family lay dying, little Libby fled their tiny farmhouse into the freezing January snow. She lost some fingers and toes, but she survived, and famously testified that her 15-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, Ben sits in prison, and troubled Libby lives off the dregs of a trust created by well-wishers who've long forgotten her.

Another Gillian for the Million
Revisado: 08-09-15
If you could sum up Dark Places in three words, what would they be?
Brilliant Twisting Entertaining
What did you like best about this story?
Characters, especially Libby who carries so much baggage
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, Gone Girl. This book was somewhat similar in plot and method of going from present to past to develop the story. The ending was much more satisfying with Dark Places due to the feeling that everything was going to work out for the good guys.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The scene-yes Flynn has a style of writing that you can visualize what's going on-where Libby finds Polly and her daughter. The action was so tense, I started sweating.
Any additional comments?
The character and voice of Lyle was a bit too wimpy. Flynn's character development and descriptive style is refreshing. No holds barred. Great story, although the synchronicity of the murder scene was somewhat unbelievable.

Historia
Picking up where Fall of Giants, the first novel in the extraordinary Century Trilogy, left off, Winter of the World follows its five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - through a time of enormous social, political, and economic turmoil, beginning with the rise of the Third Reich, through the great dramas of World War II, and into the beginning of the long Cold War.

Like living through the war years
Revisado: 12-26-12
What did you love best about Winter of the World?
Telling the story from many different points of view. Unpredictability. An emotional rollercoaster.
What other book might you compare Winter of the World to and why?
Reminded me of Winds of War, but this had more historical accuracy and less romanticism.
Which scene was your favorite?
My favorite scene was in Berlin when trying to obtain the plans for the next Russian offensive from the soldier/piano student. My anticipation of the next move made me breathless.
If you could rename Winter of the World, what would you call it?
A Crusade Against Evil.
Any additional comments?
Highly recommend Ken Follett's epic tales.
