Historia
Growing up in a small town in Minnesota, Tyler and his two brothers filled their days with chaotic fun, from playing hockey to building forts to making their own home movies. The household was also full of addiction and abuse that ultimately led to their father attempting to murder their mother on Christmas Eve 2007.

(Warning: this is LONNGGGG!) A very good story. Heartfelt & heartbreaking. TZ's narration was special too. Him reading his own life story! Wow! I'm so sorry his childhood was so wracked by pain & fear. However, I'm so happy that he, Deev, Beau, & their Mom survived that horrendous night!! I'm even happier that these kids, turned their lives around, & are now happy, responsible, & healthy, both physically & emotionally/mentally...well, spiritually too. I've heard both TZ & Deev speak of their faith. Not outright, but in small ways. It's difficult to come through abuse in one piece, near impossible when an entire childhood is sullied by that kind of abuse. It can bring one closer to God, or lead one down the path to hell. & it appears they chose the straight & narrow path that few find (Matt 7:13-14). Tjat is wonderful!! I am broken hearted for them all, maybe a bit more so for Devin/Deev due to what he was forced to do. I would tell TZ though: if you haven't already done so, please stop blaming yourself! you were guilty of nothing! You took care of you littlest brother. That was a big deal!Remember that God has a plan, & that night everyone was in the place they were supposed to be! Let me clarify that. I'm not saying that God hurt your mother! NO!! That came straight from Satan! I'm saying He used that event to help Y'all grow up (too fast), & build better lives. I praise God for leading Y'all to a better place. TZ, Deev, I'll be "seeing" Y'all on YT soon!

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

I've returned to my youth with the Cowsill Podcast
Revisado: 08-25-22
But not like we used to say about older folks who were senile! 😁 I was a fan of the Cowsills from the 1st time I heard The Rain, The Park. and Other Things! Bill & Bob were my fan favorites, but I loved them all!! I rediscovered them a few years ago so I play their music all the time, but with the podcasts you can really get to "know" them! It is so sad that Bill, Richard, Barry, & Barbara are no longer aren't able to take part. I'm so grateful that Bob, Paul, Susan, & John are still with us! They share their memories, have guests who share even more memories, they laugh & play & tease each other. They seem to be just being themselves. I could be wrong & it's all staged & rehearsed, but I don't think so! I admit, I'm WAY behind on the podcasts, but my phone is my internet & my "unlimited data" hits it's "limit" before the month is over, so I don't listen to long videos often, to save my data for "more important" stuff. Like doctors, grocery orders, insurance, medication orders, etc. 🙄 I'd RATHER be listening to Bob, Paul, & Susan instead! 😁 Hey Cowsills! Y'all keep on keeping on! I & millions of others around the globe love you. I'm in good company...good Cowsill Lovin' company! 🎉🎶🎵🎉

People of the Raven
Revisado: 07-07-22
I have been reading the People series for nearly 30 years! I have finished all that have been published so far & am anxiously awaiting Lightning Shell, the final book, to come out next week. I am currently reading my way back through the series, reading them in chronological order this time, & because it has been 18 years since I read this book, plus the fact that I am both reading AND listening to it, it was like reading a brand new book! As per normal for the books written by W. Michael & Kathleen O'Neal Gear, both the story & the characters are well written, rich with historical knowledge, & very enjoyable! These two, using their experience as archeologists & anthropologists, make these books to be educational in addition to being fun to read! I simply love them! The books AND the authors! The Audible narration is good, the voice clear. I truly appreciate having names pronounced for me! There were several places where the narration covered passages that were not in my book, but that caused a problem only the first time! I highly recommend this Audible rendition & suggest to pair it with reading if you can.

Best-selling writing team and archaeologists W. Michael and Kathleen O’Neal Gear offer this compelling second novel in their Battle for America series. In 1539, Black Shell, his wife Pearl Hand, and their fellow exiles try to make a stand against the invasion of the Kristianos and their leader Hernando de Soto. But de Soto doesn’t plan to back down easily.

Second book in a trilogy...
Revisado: 08-15-21
of the story of Hernando de Soto's invasion of what became the American Southeast, from the view of the Native peoples. This book chronicles the journey up through Georgia & back down into Alabama. Several small groups join Black Shell & Pearl Hand to stop the army, with horrible losses. They believe they stand a chance to beat de Soto once they reach the large, rich nation of Cofitachequi. Their hopes are dashed, first by the prior devastation of the nation due to small pox, then by the treachery of a young woman, second in line to rule. The ruling members of their next hope, the nation of Coosa, refuse to fight. Instead, they send a man from their ruling council plus a group of warriors on to the next nation to request a collaboration to fight him together. This installment ends after this battle. Once again, the Gear's have produced an informative, shall I say educational, book of American History which we have not been taught in modern Americsn schools. Yes, this book is fiction, but it has enough true history behind it to enlighten us to what actually happened. I live smack dab in the area of the Coosa nation & all I knew was that de Soto came through looking for gold. Period. I thank the Gears for filling in the blanks. Another masterpiece from their collaboration.

Another great book...
Revisado: 08-14-21
by a great team of authors! W. Michael Gear & Kathleen O'Neal Gear, as anthropologists & archeologists, have the background to turn a based on true life fictional story into a rich, fully informative, & highly enjoyable masterpiece! This book begins after the landing of Hernando de Soto in Florida, with his push into the lands & homes of Native Americans. He is followed, & constantly irritated, by a man who was enslaved by de Soto for a time, & his wife. They make it their mission to stop him after seeing first hand his vicious methods of warfare. Along the way, up through Florida & Georgia, into North Carolina & Tennessee, back into Georgia, Alabama, & Mississippi, they follow the army, gathering others who share the mission & try to stop the deadly invasion. This was a good storyline which was written into a great book, by wonderful authors. Can it get much better?

Historia
One thousand years in the future, the zyme, a thick blanket of luminous green slime, covers the oceans. Glaciers three-miles-high rise over the continents. The old stories say that when the Jemen, godlike beings from the past, realized their efforts to halt global warming had gone terribly wrong, they made a desperate gamble to save life on earth and recreated species that had survived the worst of the earth's Ice Ages. Sixteen-summers-old Lynx and his best friend Quiller are members of the Sealion People - archaic humans known as Denisovans.

Pretty predictable...
Revisado: 06-29-21
in that you can predict the Gear's books will be SO unpredictable! In this book of Kathleen's, which is set in the future, I was expecting it to be more "sci-fi-ish". What I got was more along the lines of the books she, together w/ her husband Michael, write of the ancient People of North America (which tie for my all time favorite book series'), w/ a crumb or two of sci-fi thrown in. Granted, I listened to this book rather than read it. Perhaps it lost something in translation. I have a visual brain so my ears may have missed nuances my eyes would have caught. Someday, I will read it for myself to see. Overall, I loved the storyline & the characters. The narration was good, but at times I had difficulty understanding something, even after replaying it several times. Was it due to unknown words invented for the story, the speed &/or accent of the readers voices, or my visual brain missing something? IDK. I'm putting it down, for now, as a combination of all three. Every fan of historical/futuristc novels should read this book! For Gear fans, imho, it's another mandatory read! Sequel, please!

A book to read again & again...
Revisado: 03-31-21
...as are all of the books in this series! I wholeheartedly recommend reading The First North Americans Series by W. Michael Gear & Kathleen O'Neal Gear! This is my 3rd time reading People of the Wolf (the 1st time was 30 years ago!), the 1st book of the series, but it's my 1st time ever reading & listening to a book together! What an experience! The Gears take their readers deep into the story! Their characters are so real that I soon have new friends, along with some whom I love to hate! With their combined expertise in archeology & anthropology, the Gears not only entertain, but also teach through these books! I love learning from my reading material! Each time I I re-read a People book, I find something I missed the last time around! I believe this series should be mandatory reading for American History classes!
