Terrible narration
Revisado: 08-29-15
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
If the narrator had a smooth tone of voice, it would've probably felt more encouraging rather than accusatory. I don't understand why the author picked an old man who narrates like we are in the 70s. I assume he picked the narrator that sounded close to himself, but the listeners want to feel relaxed when listening to these books, not lectured.

The BEST book for chronic suffers
Revisado: 08-26-15
What was one of the most memorable moments of How to Be Sick?
This is probably the best book I've purchased so far. The narration fits perfectly with the contents. It is so gentle, encouraging and reminds us to always love ourselves and not blame ourselves for our suffering. It is like drinking a calming tea, so soothing to my soul. I would give it 10 stars if I could.
What does Deon Vozov bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She is such a talented narrator. Her voice is healing and genuine. Just listening to her voice puts me at ease.

Historia
Do you suffer from chronic pain? If so, you're not alone. In fact, more than 100 million Americans deal with this life-changing issue every day. And if you're like most of them, you've tried all the normal "solutions": doctors, injections, medications, and surgeries. While these all have a place in healing, they have fallen short in dealing with the pain epidemic. So what can you do?

Definitely get the additional downloads
Revisado: 08-25-15
Would you listen to The Tapping Solution for Pain Relief again? Why?
Although the author did not suffer chronic pain, I'm glad he released this book for chronic pain. There's additional downloads on his website where you can practice more tapping with his guidance (the URL is in the book). When I did them, tears came out of my eyes because I felt so understood. All of the pain and suffering I was going through were being validated and acknowledged.
What about Nick Ortner’s performance did you like?
The narration of his book is a little fast and not as warm and caring as his downloads. His videos on YouTube are also fantastic.
Any additional comments?
I don't do the actual tapping every day, but the concept of loving and accepting yourself is something I need to hear over and over again.

'Mindfulness for Dummies'
Revisado: 08-25-15
What disappointed you about Calming the Emotional Storm?
Not only is the narration so condescending and choppy, the first hour of this short book is spent on the logistics of how to practice mindfulness. I guess if you've never practiced meditation, it's fine, but it feels like the narrator is almost laughing at you with her tone of voice.
How could the performance have been better?
Terrible, terrible narration.

It's a memoir
Revisado: 08-25-15
Would you try another book from Elizabeth Lesser and/or Susan Denaker?
I am a fan of Lesser's work and the Omega Institute, but this book is not a self-help, it's a memoir. If you like memoirs, I think this is a great book for you. But personally, I'm not interested in memoirs, so this was not for me.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Susan Denaker?
The narration is wonderful. She has warmth and depth.

Q&As disrupt the flow
Revisado: 08-25-15
What could Alice Boyes, PhD have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I wish there weren't questions with multiple choice answers in the book. "Question and A)--- B)--- C)---, which one applies to you? Repeat." If it was paperback, you can just skip them but when each and every one is read out to you, it's annoying.
How could the performance have been better?
If we didn't have to hear the Q&A's throughout the book.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I like the concept of this book, the CBT approach and the upbeat "let's fix it" attitude. The narration was cheerful and decent, although it could've been a little slower.

Good balance of science and self-help
Revisado: 08-23-15
What did you like best about this story?
Some self-help gets too technical with data and science, but this included just a hint of science. Just enough to back up the self-help strategies.
What about Janis Daddona’s performance did you like?
Narration was excellent, very comforting and soft.

What if what you really need is not higher standards for yourself, but greater self-compassion? In Living with Your Heart Wide Open, you'll discover how mindfulness and self-compassion can free you from the thoughts and beliefs that create feelings of inadequacy.

Many guided meditation with music included
Revisado: 07-30-15
What did you like best about Living with Your Heart Wide Open? What did you like least?
The narration was great, the contents were good, but I did not expect there to be 5 or 6 guided meditation included in the book. If you aren't in the state of doing meditation, it could be a little annoying. It's good if you are already lying down and in a relaxed state of mind.
I wish they had the guided meditations as a separate download from their website like so many other audiobooks do. If they had done that, I would've given it 5 stars because the content itself was good.

Not many people in the medical world are talking about how being afraid can make us sick - but the truth is that fear, left untreated, becomes a serious risk factor for conditions from heart disease to diabetes to cancer. Now Lissa Rankin, MD, explains why we need to heal ourselves from the fear that puts our health at risk and robs our lives of joy - and tells us how fear can ultimately cure us by opening our eyes to all that needs healing in our lives.

Scary statistics and supernatural phenomenons
Revisado: 07-26-15
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
First she starts off with a drawn out play-by-play of her own experience of being mugged. Then the first part of her book is slamming statistics of how "anxiety and fear actually kills people." It made me have a great deal of anxiety just by listening to the data. But I'm a fan of Rankin, so I kept listening even though I wanted to stop. Then it got better, more positive. And then midway through her book, she started talking about supernatural experiences that she and others has had. It was creepy... I like to listen to these books before bed in a dark room. With all of the scary information, I just can't listen without getting spooked.
Has The Fear Cure turned you off from other books in this genre?
I think she has good intentions in writing this book, but she gives out these death stats, gruesome stories, supernatural experiences and says, "But don't these things help cure your fears?" And I'm thinking, "No, it just gives me more anxiety and stresses me out!"
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Fear Cure?
I feel this book is hot and cold. In one section, it's scaring me out, then the next she's positive and reassuring, then it's scary again... It doesn't seem to be consistent. I really wanted to like this book...

Soothing...
Revisado: 07-25-15
What made the experience of listening to The Courage to Be Yourself the most enjoyable?
The author's message is to have love and compassion towards yourself. She touches on a variety of negative emotions we might have, but does it in a positive and encouraging way. The narrator is perfect, she reads slow and has warmth.
What other book might you compare The Courage to Be Yourself to and why?
This book is similar to Self-Compassion, another book that I love. Which also has excellent narration.
