Don’t waste your money or your time
Revisado: 04-20-25
The unapologetically direct author’s interactions with the audience is off putting and obnoxious. The author begins by making fun of someone trying to sell blessings from angels and then proceeds to spout her own version of nonsense. My refund is requested.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Historia
Brooke Shields has spent a lifetime in the public eye. Growing up as a child actor and model, her every feature was scrutinized, her every decision judged. Today Brooke faces a different kind of scrutiny: that of being a “woman of a certain age.” And yet, for Brooke, the passage of time has brought freedom. At fifty-nine, she feels more comfortable in her skin, more empowered and confident than she did decades ago in those famous Calvin Kleins. Now, in Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old, she’s changing the narrative about women and aging.

Authentic, relatable and thoroughly enjoyable
Revisado: 01-19-25
I am just a little older than the author, and while I have never had my pictures on a billboard, I could relate with so much. I love Brooke’s wit and comedic take on aging as a woman in a youth obsessed, male dominated society and hearing it straight from her voice was the icing on the cake. I started listening and didn’t stop until it was finished. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Historia
Two retired Texas Rangers, Captains Woodrow Call and Augustus "Gus" McCrae, lead a cattle drive from the small town of Lonesome Dove to the unsettled Montana territories. On their grueling journey, they are joined by Joshua Deets, a Black scout and former Ranger, Jake Spoon, a fugitive, and Newt Dobbs, a 17-year-old boy who may have family ties to Call. Richly authentic, beautifully written, always dramatic, Lonesome Dove will make listeners laugh and weep, dream and remember.

Washington, DC, 1950. Everyone keeps to themselves at Briarwood House, a down-at-the-heels all-female boardinghouse in the heart of the nation’s capital where secrets hide behind white picket fences. But when the lovely, mysterious widow Grace March moves into the attic room, she draws her oddball collection of neighbors into unlikely friendship. Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Centering wisdom with a dash of humor
Revisado: 02-19-24
I am rarely disappointed in anything done by Pema and this book was no exception. Her easy manner of being invites the listener to open up and trust that she takes the ride with us. Somehow she never fails to inspire focus on areas I most need to develop and I can think of no one I’d rather travel this challenging road with than Pema.

Gritty, honest, absorbing and hopeful
Revisado: 08-25-22
I’m happy to report that the numerous negative reviews I read before buying the book were, (in my view) unfounded.
The subject matter is at times raw and graphic, but is essential to properly convey the depth of psychological pain experienced. The honesty and vulnerability of the book are the best proof that commitment to mental health and healing may not be easy but so worth the effort.
