Historia
Beautiful and feisty Henrietta Barrett has never followed the dictates of society. She manages her elderly guardian's estate, prefers to wear breeches rather than dresses, and answers to the unlikely name of Henry. But when her guardian passes away, her beloved home falls into the hands of a distant cousin. William Dunford, London's most elusive bachelor, is stunned to learn that he's inherited property, a title, and a ward bent on making his first visit his last.

As usual, I loved Julia Quinn’s novel
Revisado: 05-20-20
I give the story 5 stars and enjoyed the narrators voice for the main character, Henrietta aka Henry, but really disliked the performed voice of Dunford. Well, I was able to ignore the artificial accents and tones of Dunford and other secondary parts bc the story was so good.

No one had ever looked at her and seen perfection - until now. Eighteen months into their marriage, however, Sandro has turned to ice. Desperate to escape a relationship that has proven to be as stubbornly passionate as it is cold and hateful, Theresa summons up the courage to ask for a divorce. But before he’ll grant her request, Sandro demands something from Theresa: a son.

An intriguing story and performance
Revisado: 04-25-14
I found The Unwanted Wife to be a fascinating listen. It has many of the usual elements of a romantic novel that make them so much fun: intense emotion, sensuality and focus on a troubled relationship between a married couple. Even though the couple are, of course, amazingly beautiful and rich, there is a true sense of the extreme emotional challenge the two of them have to resolve in order to get to the HEA that is pretty rare to find in a romantic novel. I found myself thinking of people I know who have struggled to get past the preconceptions and their upbringings to find happiness, not just with love, but with children and the course of their own lives. The Unwanted Wife really illustrates the difficulty of learning to trust others and grow after having been wounded by someone important.
I also was truly amazed by Justine Eyre's narration. I don't know what her background is, but I've listened to her narrate English regency books that had me pretty sure she has lived in England, but this book is related with a South African accent that now has me wondering where she's from.

Historia
Performance artists Caleb and Camille Fang dedicated themselves to making great art. But when an artist's work lies in subverting normality, it can be difficult to raise well-adjusted children. Just ask Buster and Annie Fang. For as long as they can remember, they starred (unwillingly) in their parents' madcap pieces. But now that they are grown up, the chaos of their childhood has made it difficult to cope with life outside the fishbowl of their parents' strange world.

A true original
Revisado: 03-27-13
The Family Fang is a quirky tale that defies easy categorization. I listened to it twice, which I almost never do, and found the second time to be even more interesting and shocking than the first.
There is a dark, uncomfortable sort of humor throughout, that's oddly enjoyable. Think "The Loved One" or something by Muriel Spark. Although the characters themselves are truly out of the ordinary, there is something universal regarding the relationships between the grown up children "A" and "B" and their driven, bizarre parents that gives a lot of opportunity for thought.
There's also a wonderful depiction of the world of creative arts -- performance art, acting, painting and writing -- that I found fun and moving.
My book club chose this book and we had a great time discussing it. Members brought a lot of interesting personal perspectives in response to the plot line, characters and themes of The Family Fang. I can imagine that some people might find the story too odd for them to enjoy, but even though there are some very dark ideas here, there is also a positive, hopeful feel to the book that makes it much more than a just a depressing read.
Therese Plummer was a fantastic narrator. She was able to perform the parts of children, men and. women, and even did a great job singing when needed.
All in all, The Family Fang is on my best book list. I may even have to buy an actual book version of it!

Historia
Regency London's elegant ballrooms mask a daring world of erotic adventure. In this second novel in Gaelen Foley's Spicy Trilogy, a mysterious beauty with a devastating secret discovers, in the arms of a bold and fearless cavalry officer, passion that breaks all boundaries. Some say the aristocratic Balfour clan is cursed, a once-great family now in slow decline. Graceful Lily Balfour is her family's last hope, and she has come to London with one goal - to marry a rich man. Her well-laid plans are balked, however, by the irresistible Major Derek Knight, a handsome highborn soldier.

Almost great romantic fantasy
Revisado: 03-27-13
Any additional comments?
This intricate novel had a lot of excitement, well defined characters and romance, but the story line seemed to be enough for three books and too much for one. The end especially, although interesting, could have been a separate book by itself. I enjoyed the performance by Rebecca Cook and felt a little disappointed that the story line just was a little too much in an otherwise interesting novel.

Wonderful read
Revisado: 11-08-12
What does Angela Dawe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The narrator's voice ably conveys different characters' ages, ethnicity and sex with subtlety and charm.
Any additional comments?
I read the sequel first, "Dreaming in English" and loved it. "Veil of Roses" is just as wonderful. Read them both!

wonderful, complex, funny

This is an amazing book, and is a great example of how an audible book can be a better experience than reading the same book. It is difficult at times, but it also was riveting, hilarious and poignant.
