Historia
The Emperor's vision of mankind ascendant lies in tatters. The Great Crusade is naught but a fading memory. The dream of Unity is no more. But with Horus's rebellion spreading to every corner of the Imperium and war engulfing new worlds and systems almost daily, there are some who now ask: were the signs there to be seen all along?

another great collection of short stories
Revisado: 11-06-24
I loved this collection. a lot of really cool stories that flesh out other events in the Horus Heresy world.
the only trouble I had with it is that a lot of the performance involves whispering, which makes it really difficult to fall asleep to (which is my habit).

Vulkan lies in state beneath the Fortress of Hera, and yet many of his sons still refuse to believe that he is truly dead. After a seemingly miraculous rescue by the Ultramarines, Artellus Numeon, once captain of the Pyre Guard, urges the other Salamanders on Macragge to leave Imperium Secundus and return their primarch's body to the home world of Nocturne - there to be reborn in the flames of Mount Deathfire.

this is another good entry in the Horus Heresy series. I was glad for the focus on the Salamanders.
it was interesting to watch Numeon stay so steadfast when sometimes no one stood by his side.

Great Follow-up to the First Part
Revisado: 10-02-23
I loved this second part of the story. We have much of the same cast as the first part, and some new characters as well. Darcy and Hope and all the people around them are moving forward and trying to find their places in the aftermath of the events of the first book.
There's a good amount of character growth and we're given good reasons to care about most of the characters. A continuing theme is "what makes someone monstrous?"
I'm excited to see where the next part takes us.

In the absolutely packed Act II, the dark fantasy resumes and the Sandman expands into the French Revolution, ancient Rome, 19th-century San Francisco, eighth-century Baghdad, and beyond. New and familiar characters abound, voiced by a bright mix of performers, including Kat Dennings, Regé-Jean Page, Emma Corrin, Michael Sheen, Kristen Schaal, Brian Cox, John Lithgow, Jeffrey Wright, and so many more, including fan-favorite narrators Simon Vance and Ray Porter.

I love these
Revisado: 08-25-23
I enjoy that there's a full cast performing these audiobooks. James McAvoy just becomes Morpheus and really brings him to life.
I like that these Sandman books are multiple stories within a bigger story, sometimes intertwining, sometimes just a fun side adventure. I really enjoy seeing Dream develop as a character from the events in Act I and that he's starting to consider how his actions have consequences and maybe he's not always right.

It’s the near future and seven years since a comet hit the earth and blotted out the sun. The world is a dark, frozen landscape. And then, beastly creatures emerge and take over. I wasnt expecting to be this drawn in
Revisado: 08-14-23
The premise sounded cool and I love vampire stuff so I thought I'd give it a listen.
I didn't expect to be that drawn in. I didn't expect to be unable to use this to listen to while drifting off to sleep like I usually do with audiobooks because this demanded my attention to every word.
I didn't expect such a satisfying story. I didn't expect to finish this over the course of a weekend, coming back over and over again to listen during every free moment.
The cast does a great job and the writing and direction is wonderful. The only thing I didn't care for was the existence of intro/occasional outro music but that's in a lot of audiobooks and not a deal breaker for me

Created in the Emperor's own image, the primarchs had long thought themselves to be princes of the universe and masters of their own destiny - they led the Space Marine Legions in glorious conquest of the galaxy, and no enemy of the Imperium could stand against them. However, even amongst this legendary brotherhood, the seeds of dissent had been sown long before the treacherous Warmaster Horus declared his grand heresy.

Background on the Word Bearers
Revisado: 03-21-22
I didn't expect to feel bad for the Word Bearers after all we've seen from them in other stories in this series.
they'll never be my favorite legion and I'm still no fan of Lorgar, but Argel Tarl is one of those characters in this universe that is easy to love. He's not perfect but his flaws shape him and give us a way to understand how so many of the rank-and-file astartes ended up freely joining the rebellion.
this story also gives more information about the Emperor and the background of the primarchs. Absolutely not a story to skip.

Interesting Story but Not My Favorite
Revisado: 12-14-21
I like the Thousand Suns legion, but I struggled to get through this book.
I was glad to see Remembrancers make a return to the forefront. Something about the more fragile and human forms interacting with the Astartes is always interesting for me. I liked learning more about the background of the legion.
I didn't care much for the narration. It wasn't necessarily poorly done, just not for me. I also didn't like the conclusion some of the Astartes came to about their powers towards the end.
Overall another interesting story about the world. I'm not upset I listened to it, it just wasn't my favorite.

Historia
With news of Horus' treachery spreading across the galaxy, the Great Crusade grinds to a halt as the primarchs and their Legions decide where their loyalty lies - with the Emperor or with the rebel Warmaster. The Dark Angels, too, face a time of testing, both among the stars and on their home world, Caliban. Luther, once Lion El'Jonson's trusted second-in-command, now languishes as an exile in all but name while his master struggles to thwart the traitors' advance upon the forge world Diamat.

Interesting Rift in the Dark Angels Legion
Revisado: 10-14-21
I'd have liked it more if I liked the Dark Angels more but Zahariel and Nemiel just grate on me for some reason I haven't determined yet. Even still, I enjoyed this book.
It took me a little bit to get into the story but some of the Black Library books are like that. There's a lot of setup but it always pays off.
I hope there is a third part to the Dark Angels' story later on because a lot of this was left open for continuation and by the end I actually was wanting to know what's going to happen with Caliban, with Luthor and Zahariel, and with Lion El Johnson and Nemiel.
