Historia
In 2059, two vastly different groups of people portrayed by the compelling trio of Brendan Fraser (Academy Award winner), Luke Kirby (Emmy Award winner), and Vanessa Sears (Dora Award winner) undergo cryonic suspension. While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison.

Great cast, vast story line. I love a story and characters that I can’t anticipate decisions and outcomes. Surprisingly nuanced, as well.

I'll read anything by Grady Hendrix
Revisado: 09-29-18
What a fantastic book!! Carol Monda's performance was perfect for Chris--that slight gravel to her voice. Grady Hendrix has the ability to build a story line with perfect pacing, throwing in surprises that keep your attention riveted. There's always a tilt to the storyline that leads you into a bizarre world. I really enjoy all of his books. I listened to this one twice in a row.

Historia
One Sunday afternoon, as she unloaded the dishwasher, Gretchen Rubin felt hit by a wave of homesickness. Homesick - why? She was standing right in her own kitchen. She felt homesick, she realized, with love for home itself. In a flash, she decided to undertake a new happiness project, and this time, to focus on home. And what did she want from her home? A place that calmed her, and energized her. A place that, by making her feel safe, would free her to take risks. Also, while Rubin wanted to be happier at home, she wanted to appreciate how much happiness was there already.

A lot of repeated information and stories
Revisado: 07-27-18
I love Gretchen Rubin and have thoroughly enjoyed her previous books. This one, however, repeats much of the stories and information in 'The Happiness Project.' It's just not enough new content. Also, it's much more purely autobiographical. I do love her voice, and enjoy listening to her life experience. This book seems a little like filler, though. I'm looking forward to her books which explore new subjects.

An excellent book in every way. Great narration and pacing for a story that veers away from the tried (trite) and true SHTF format. The story is unpredictable, gritty, but also poetic and haunting in places. Recommending to all of my apocalypse genre reading friends.

The Prepper always finds the hot, naked chick...
Revisado: 12-21-16
Interesting take on bugging out---or in, since they're already on a remote fishing cabin when the SHTF. Good detail on the main characters preps, logistics and survival knowledge. Also interesting interplay between characters without desperate, over the top drama. They all act like rational adults.
Stiff, slightly juvenile writing style. Kevin Pierce seems to have become the go-to reader for any and all prepper audiobooks!
And---I have to say---
SO SICK of these stories where Prepper just happens to find the smoking hot, slightly dumb naked chick. Riiiggggttt.... Also, at the end of the story said naked chick is pregnant. What woman would so forgetfully get pregnant in a TEOTWAWKI situation??? It illustrates her utter lack of caution and self-preservation in a newly dangerous world. Really getting tired of women portrayed as useless and clueless in prepper stories.

Not as good as the preceding books, sadly.
Revisado: 12-21-16
I LOVE this series: LOVE IT! So, I was really surprised to be a little bored by this story. Dog was a great addition to Kill's survival experience. However, it was as if the author was trying to hearken back to the great old days of the first book in the series, Day By Day Armageddon, in story structure and action. There has been so much narrative since then, including the military intervention, having a baby, etc., that it was difficult to plausibly return to Kill's solo adventures with very little reference to his past.
Still---the series as a whole ranks as one of the top zompoc narratives out there.

A great build up of characters and events. This is a really well-structured story made even better with the perfect narrator.
As I was 14 in the mid-80's, the cultural idioms and details made the book even better.
Definitely worth my credit!

As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey.

Utterly implausible apocalypse...couldn't finish.
Revisado: 07-04-16
No antagonists, no conflict. Implausible story because despite millions dying of epidemic, there main characters aren't tripping over bodies everywhere. The roads are even clear of cars and roadblocks! Also, no mention of flies and vermin. Ridiculous plot arc for characters to decide to fly to Hawaii to make a permanent home---why isolate themselves from an entire, vast continent of resources?
Only Scott Brick kept me listening, but I gave up just a couple of hours near the end. I like the SHTF TEOTWAWKI genre, but this one was just too implausible.
