Finally we come to the end of this wonderful series. I thought it was perfectly tied together into a lovely bow to finish off this amazing trilogy. I laughed, cried, and wished there was more!

However, all good stories must come to an end and Ross did a marvelous job doing just that. The characters were so real as always, and Podehl once again brought this story to life, making me feel as though I was with the Blade Runner crew at every moment.

Thank you both for such a beautiful send off, not many series can say they ended on a high note, but this one most certainly does.

Even though this book made me cry multiple times, I’m still going to recommend this book to everyone I know. I’ve listened to Robert W. Rosses books for quite some time now, but this one really pulled at my heart strings (pun intended) and I had to write a review since I love a good romantic book.

Amazing story that expresses romantic love in a manner that’s far deeper than what is usually presented in the romance genre. Also great for the listener that prefers closed door romances. I like a story that is more focused on the relationships than having a spicy scene every other chapter. Buy this book, you won’t regret it!!!!

This is my new favorite in the series. I loved A Tale of Two Gardens because that was where we really started seeing this amazing world that Robert Ross created for us. However, this book tops it. It has everything. Fast cars that explode. Time travel. Revealed and shared ancestries. Vampires, Werewolves, and Necromancers, oh my!

There is also what I can only describe as a kind of kinetic energy about this particular installment. It's almost like you are on a thrill ride that keeps getting faster and faster, but then you pause and catch your breath at the end with a huge smile on your face. You look around for the ride's exit, but see that the ride had one more amazing drop, which will be the final book Robert has promised us. To be clear, A Scion of Amber light does NOT end on a cliff hanger, it resolves wonderfully. Still, we know the cliff is out there and it's coming for us.

Finally, there is the thread woven throughout the series. Kellan and Shannon. What a team they make. I am so scared for what may happen in the last book of the series and this book really tees it up without, as I just mentioned, leaving us with a cliffhanger. Chef’s Kiss to the Author for that. Thank you!!

So, I read all the books before finding the audiobooks, but had run out of books after Book 4, which ended on a cliffhanger. The print version of this book only came out a couple weeks ago and I devoured it in two days because I didn't know how long it would be until the audiobook came out.

It's HERE!! The book 4, cliffhanger is so deftly handled. It doesn't completely resolve itself until the first of two climaxes about 2/3 of the way through the book, which is great. I hate it when the whole conflict of a pervious book is solved in the first chapter...not here folks...we have to work for it. But what do we get for that work...another amazing character. Pullo Longinus, Kellan's gladiator sherpa friend. I love how Ross uses ancient Rome as a way to show how gender interactions have changed in 2,000 years. It's just part of the story and he doesn't feel the need to bonk us on the head, but wow it makes you think.

So in Book 4, Shannon is in need of saving though she would argue that point. In this Book, Kellan has no hope of escape except for Shannon and Meghan. Speaking for those two women...God does the author get that interaction spot on. He mentioned in his Author's notes that he does alpha and beta reads with folks and that they are ruthless. It shows because I just love how Meghan and Shannon interact. They are competitive yet loving. They will give each other a tough time, but no one else better do it.

Finally, we end up with the second climax of the book which sets the stage for what looks to be the final two books of the series. I actually hope the author changes his mind and goes for an even ten books instead of seven. We now know the stakes Kellan and Shannon are playing for. It's not just Order and Chaos...it's for the whole universe as Creation and Destruction vie for dominance. Can't wait!!

I'm not going to kid you here, this book ends on a cliffhanger and waiting for Book 5 totally sucked. If you are reading this review, you are lucky because Book 5 is now out.

I've read them all, then decided to listen to the audiobooks...which are AWESOME! Nick Podehl does an amazing job of inhabiting these characters. In the Author's notes Ross talks about how he and Nick have become friends and work really closely together...it totally shows.

Anyway, this book. We get to meet the Fae! I literally jumped up and down. I won't spoil anything, but somehow Ross and Podehl managed to put Shakespeare's Mid Summer's Night into this book. The chapters with Fae change tone so wonderfully that you are transported into their world and I, for one, would like to stay there with Tansi :-)

We get Imperial Russian ghosts. We get Lucifer up to his David Bowie'esque antics. And we get Kellan being a Mah-mannn and looking out for his lady love while she's far from a damsel in distress.

I just love these guys...you will too!

A Wizard's Soul is the point in this series where I become absolutely convinced it needs to be a movie or, better yet, an Amazon series.

There is time travel that harkens back to the first book. There are tons of new characters that somehow all get the space to breath additional life into an already vibrant world.

We get a glimpse of mythological gods, goddesses, and wizards (obviously). You will recognized the wizard and, like Kellan, say "No way, dude, just no way." Well...way!

All of my favorites are back with Kellan and Shannon continuing to move their relationship forward in an amazingly "normal" way despite their very abnormal lives. Juliet is dating which, of course, freaks Kellan out to no end and caused me to laugh out loud because I can totally see the scenes happening. I love his referencing how she's attached to her boyfriend like the "Kraken bringing down a ship."

There's a scene where the wizard speaks with his mother that brought streams of tears, then the epilogue contrasts that previous sadness with something so amazingly joyful that I took notes because I want that for myself <grin>

Paging Jeff Bezos...have someone contact this author.

A Tale of Great Characters

So, what happens when a cabal of unnatural beings decide they want to undo creation, A Tale of Two Gardens happens.

Oh my...what a rollercoaster. We have angels, demons, Lucifer driving an Aston Martin Vanquish (which I had to look up), and Shannon McLeod who I think must be the hottest female character since Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman. So, if Gal Gadot is my real-world girl-crush, Shannon has to be my literary one. Better..in about five years, I want to BE Shannon McLeod...what an awesomely written female character.

I've read the author's bio and some of his author's notes which gave me a bit more background on these characters. He mentions how he works hard to create realistic characters in general and female ones in particular because sometimes they are used as plot devices. Well, he's done a great job. None of the females in Ross' world are damsels in distress, tied to railroad tracks. They'd be more likely to punch that train in its face...while still looking awesome doing it.

I just pray someday this series gets picked up by Amazon Prime...it would be awesome to see these characters leap off the screen!

As I mentioned in the first book's review. I've read the books so the audiobooks give me a different layer on the characters. They are soooo REAL. I just love them all, even the ones I want to kill. :-P
