Historia
Lyndsey was once a top handler in the Moscow Field Station, where she was known as the "human lie detector" and praised for recruiting some of the most senior Russian officials. But now, three Russian assets have been exposed - including one of her own - and the CIA is convinced there's a mole in the department. With years of work in question and lives on the line, Lyndsey is thrown back into life at the agency, this time tracing the steps of those closest to her.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 04-25-25
The author knows get subject matter, but not the greatest story teller. I finished the book, but I can't say I enjoyed it. There is no tension or buildup. Things just happen.

Not like the first in the series
Revisado: 03-31-25
I liked the first book. This feels more like a run of the mill "cozy" murder mystery. It's not my cup of tea. A little more than 2 hours in I'm calling it quits.

Not his best
Revisado: 03-30-25
I'm a big fan of the author. This one is not his best work. The pace is slower than his other books. There is too much torture, his other books can put you on edge but this one has some painful torture situations, which I prefer to avoid.

Great time travel story
Revisado: 03-27-25
You do need some a good amount of suspension of disbelief. But it's a good fun story after that. It's an interesting spin on time travel.

It’s 1996, and Reacher is still in the army. In the morning they give him a medal, and in the afternoon they send him back to school. That night he’s off the grid. Out of sight, out of mind. Two other men are in the classroom—an FBI agent and a CIA analyst. Each is a first-rate operator, each is fresh off a big win, and each is wondering what the hell they are doing there. Then they find out: A Jihadist sleeper cell in Hamburg, Germany, has received an unexpected visitor—a Saudi courier, seeking safe haven while waiting to rendezvous with persons unknown.

I like the author but this book was very different from his others and not in a good way. It didn't have the lone guy doing his own thing feel at all.

Historia
Lisa and Joe Stone, married for 20 years and sole partners in their small law firm in Henry County, Virginia, handle less-than-glamorous cases: domestic disputes, personal injury settlements, or a plethora of complaints from their cantankerous client Lettie VanSandt. When she dies in a freakish incident, the Stones think it's within the realm of possibility that she was cooking meth in her trailer. But details soon emerge that lead them to question how accidental Lettie's demise actually was.

AI narrators?
Revisado: 01-08-25
The narration is almost certainly AI. It's far too uniform and lacks any emotion even during very emotional situations. I don't know if the story is good, but the narration is extremely off-putting.

Historia
When Heather McKinley dreamed of becoming a doctor, she imagined curing sick kids and sporting pink stethoscopes. She never anticipated the sleepless nights, grueling exams, and endless labs. And she certainly never knew that her medical school earned the nickname Dead Med thanks to the tragic history of students overdosing on illegal drugs. But Heather would never consider doing anything like that. That is, until her longtime boyfriend dumps her, she finds herself failing anatomy, and her world starts to crumble.

Not the typical Frieda McFadden book
Revisado: 12-26-24
I like this author for the thrill and the suspense. About 90 minutes in, there are neither. It's about a whiny person complaining about her life in med school. This reads a lot like her other book about a doctor in med school, which was also terrible.
The female narrator sounds like a little kid and it may go with the whiny little girl attitude of the protagonist, but overall I really didn't like it. I gave up at the 90 minute mark, this is a DNF.

Newly minted doctor Jane McGill is in hell. Not literally, of course. But between her drug addict patients, sleepless nights on call, and battling wits with the sadistic yet charming Sexy Surgeon, Jane can’t imagine an afterlife much worse than her first month of medical internship at County Hospital. And then there’s the devil herself: Jane’s senior resident Dr. Alyssa Morgan. When Alyssa becomes absolutely hell-bent on making her new interns pay tenfold for the deadly sin of incompetence, Jane starts to worry that she may not make it through the year with her soul or her sanity still intact.

I love this author, but this book is not a thriller. Maybe I should have read the description better. I just bought it because of the author. It's about a whiny spineless medical intern complaining and whining incessantly. Unless it's your thing, I'd recommend avoiding this one.

Story about reality most of the world doesn't know about
Revisado: 11-24-24
This is about a was that most of the world is completely unaware of. It's well written, but I usually don't like stories that go back and forth in time. In the one, it's hard to track which time is being talked about.
The narrator is outstanding. The first time I've heard a narrator where the accents and languages were not butchered or parodies. The American accent is slightly overdone and it's possible to tell it's someone affecting it, but overall kudos.
