Historia
Max was murdered, but now he is mostly over it. Living on earth as a recent college graduate, he can still perfectly recall his past life on Albion, a sword and sorcery world. He'd been hailed as the "Hero of the World" after crawling his way up from poverty, eventually enjoying great fame and luxury. But on mana-starved Earth, he's just a guy.

poor quality recording/ QC
Revisado: 04-12-25
Story is great characters are alright pacing is decent.
quality sucks... every other chapter the end of a sentence or two and the beginning of the following sentence or two is cut off... it sounds like a sitter in audible except you can rewind and listen to it over and over again.
prime example like chapter 6 or so when perfecta is getting ready to do their first gate it begins explaining why they invited the media and then it cuts out... then a couple words past that it cuts out again.
everytime it does this it comes back in the middle of a sentence lol..
with that out of the way the forced romance with Amy was weird and was not vital to the story at all. as the portal info he gathered towards the end of it wasn't used in his escape.. as he straps himself to a device. that has nothing to do with portals.

mistakes are made when the character in question should have known better.. the priests started shite with him for a never explained reason and the emperor is so stupid I don't see how he hasn't been assassinated.

Historia
When quiet Orrin and his extroverted best friend, Daniel, were transported to a strange RPG-based world, not much changed between them. Daniel became a hero of legend, while Orrin remained his unobtrusive shadow. Only when they faced a particularly lethal foe did Orrin step out of his comfort zone and display his true worth—with powers he didn't know he had. Of course, Daniel got all the glory, but Orrin doesn't mind. He's just happy they're both still alive.

inconsistent protagonist personality
Revisado: 09-25-24
the protag seems to bounce between different personality archetypes chapter to chapter.
these people are idiocracy levels of incompetent at critical thinking.
these two are at best caricatures of introvert and extrovert.. almost like the author has never met a real example of either.
spoiler alert:
screw you author how dare you end a book on that note if we have to spend more than 15 minutes of a godawful prisoner arc in the next book I'll refund that damn thing I'm not gonna pay money to listen to your bdsm fetish.

Historia
A pyramid predating all known cultures appears without warning. Its discovery throws into question everything we know about the origins of mankind. Inside lies incredible technology, proof of a culture far more advanced than our own. Something dark lurks within, eager to resume a war as old as mankind. When it is unleashed it heralds the end of our species’ reign.

did google exist when this was written?
Revisado: 06-15-24
the premise of werewolves being an ancient cultural meme and that pyramids were built by ancient civilizations to improve the gathering of a waning natural force akin to magic is great.
but this author really should have researched guns a little before writing a story involving men with guns trying to kill werewolves.
I can deal with the whole magazines and clips thing... it's a common enough trope I can pretend I didn't hear it... but according to this author an M4 *rifle* is a smooth bore. at first I attributed this to oh it's an alternate timeline where the m4 was a smoothbore that shot discarding sabot rounds right? wrong later in that same chapter or the beginning of the next you come to find out that yes he was referring to the regular Ole 5.56mm M4 ... I almost stopped listening right there. for the next 20 chapters you get what you paid for..... right up till the secondary protagonist is arming up to go hunting our protagonist...with what amounts to iron man armor with a shoulder mounted missile launcher. and a .50 caliber something....
TIL a .50 can core a tank.. yep this author thinks that when you own a .50 caliber rifle can destroy tanks and that normally they are stationary mounted... I think he means placed on turrets or pintle mounts but it's really hurting my suspension of disbelief that a guy with joe bidens knowledge of firearms decided to write a novel like this and then focus on technical aspects of guns to make them sound amazing to people who know guns... and have completely forgotten to do any research at all.

ends short of completion...recycled villains and character arcs
Revisado: 04-16-24
the novel is well paced and well written up till the end.
when the author contrives to make lisura or whatever her name is the villain for the next book.. now however the shadows have been retcpnned as soulless slaves never mind that nazzeem was his own mam when he lead the shadows before....
now it is known that she steals souls and that's how shadows are made to not fear death... and also a contrived way to make the villain more powerful next time they face off.... all this is dropped on you in the last 20 mins of the book and doesn't mesh well at all.
this really should have been the final novel.

two ships passing in the night trope taken too far.
Revisado: 04-06-24
I love the characters and the world... but I found myself telling the author to eff off every time he contrived a confrontation where one didn't need to happen and avoided a confrontation you as a reader would have very much liked.
something happens to a character in this book and it doesn't get resolved till the last 4 hours of the story.
the author goes to extreme lengths to prevent people from rescuing said character and it gets to be a bit much.
I suspect the author has a sadism fetish.
the contrivance and the stupidity of the priests makes this a hard read...

He didn't know what he was doing.
every section of story in the first 10 hours so farr of the book has followed this. you would think a guy who has it in his true name/head that he is a betrayer would be more vigilant to getting suckered into this... so he makes up his mind to go meet nasuada and then a contrived event with thorn causes rampant destruction on civilians preventing him from dealing with his feelings of nasuada... it's annoying.

Historia
Those on the side of progressing humanity through advanced technology have finally triumphed over their oppressors. The unholy war between the small but mighty island realm of Charis and the radical, luddite Church of God's Awaiting has come to an end. However, even though a provisional veil of peace has fallen over human colonies, the quiet will not last. For Safehold is a broken world, and as international alliances shift and Charis charges on with its precarious mission of global industrialization, the shifting plates of the new world order are bound to clash.

david weber weberizes his way into making siddharmark an enemy kills off all the characters that would have made it possible to avoid that stupidity and has a narrator that mispronounces alot of words. but through it all this book sets up the next generation of the story as at the end , ... like the last 3 minutes, a bomb is dropped.
