Historia
Meet Laszlo, eight-hundred-year-old demon and Hell’s least productive Curse Keeper. From his office beneath Midtown, he oversees the Drakeford Curse, which involves a pathetic family upstate and a mysterious black monolith. It’s a sexy enough assignment—colonial origins, mutating victims, et cetera—but Laszlo has no interest in maximizing the curse’s potential; he’d rather sunbathe in Ibiza, quaff martinis, and hustle the hustlers on Manhattan’s subway.

While it is almost 18 hours, it is a lot of fun, very interesting, and worth every moment.

Historia
Lucy Hutton has always been certain that the nice girl can get the corner office. She's charming and accommodating and prides herself on being loved by everyone at Bexley & Gamin. Everyone except for coldly efficient, impeccably attired, physically intimidating Joshua Templeman. And the feeling is mutual. Trapped in a shared office together 40 (ok, 50 or 60) hours a week, they've become entrenched in an addictive, ridiculous never-ending game of one-upmanship.

Romance story that is frustratingly repetitious.

I did not enjoy this book, nor did my book club who selected it for this month, Nov 2024. It should be a short story, not a novel.

The Psychology of Fashion offers an insightful introduction to the exciting and dynamic world of fashion in relation to human behaviour, from how clothing can affect our cognitive processes to the way retail environments manipulate consumer behaviour. The book explores how fashion design can impact healthy body image, how psychology can inform a more sustainable perspective on the production and disposal of clothing, and why we develop certain shopping behaviours.

I was interested but it's academic, rather a snore
Revisado: 01-06-24
I was truly looking forward to hearing this since I think fashion is interesting.
Within the first few minutes, I found the book disappointing. If you are looking for an academic evaluation of fashion, this is for you. It wasn't for me.
The chapter topic titles don't actually represent the topic information covered except in a very small way. Another disappointment for each chapter for me.
The reader has no obvious interest in the topics being read. So it's also dull as a performance. OK at best.
For me, fashion is fun and interesting. I like learning about it. While I know that not everything about it is, I enjoy finding out about what's current, what's from different eras and countries, how people can make choices that work well/better for them, how looks change.
This gave me very little of what I was hoping to hear and learn.

I love the "cozy" mysteries. Now I'm adding this series to my collections. Wish I could find a tea shop close to me, mysteries don't need to be on the menu!

No comparison to Paul and Pru. Author saw Bake Off but doesn't understand why it works. These characters are one dimensional and I didn't find any especially interesting. A true miss of an opportunity 😣

If you love A Christmas Carol, you will thoroughly enjoy this book! I enjoyed every moment of it! While it was somewhat different from what I expected, that is part of its charm. I liked that it wasn't just like what I expected. Time well spent listening! I'll be doing this every Christmas season in the future!

Historia
For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.

Very unlike Grisham
Revisado: 12-18-22
I usually enjoy Grisham's books, but not this one. While I kept hoping, it never got better. It's his most boring book!
The reader did a good job with the lousy story, a much better job than the story deserves.
I don't understand why Grisham wrote it nor why I kept listening to the end. Don't bother.

Thank God there are 136 chapters. Skip 1-21.
Revisado: 06-16-21
It took until chapter 22 for the story to really begin--almost 2 hours into the audiobook. The first 21 chapters could have been reduced to 3 or 4; they stalled the beginning of the story.
However, once the story began, it was fabulous! Tense, moved along well, excellent narrators. When I listen again, and I will, I'll start at 22.
Listen to the first chapter or two, then decide for yourself. You may join me at 22 or you may not.

Wonderful addition
Revisado: 04-08-19
Do not start this book without finishing the 3 of All Souls. This is a wonderful addition to that trilogy. While it did take me a bit of time to get into it, once I did, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It has lots of information that filled gaps, and I like Phoebe's change from warm blood to vampire. I was very happy to learn Marcus' backstory. I do think that Diana and Matthew's relationship could have been written more like it was in the trilogy. It is a bit lifeless in this book, although a reader does know they are together and learning through life's changes with toddlers.
I hope Harkness continues writing about these characters. I look forward to learning more about them. I love having them in my ears, eyes, and heart.
