Wow!

This is a fantastic story and well performed by the narrator. A twisty slow-burn literary thriller.

Historia
Elisabeth, an accomplished journalist and new mother, is struggling to adjust to life in a small town after nearly 20 years in New York City. Alone in the house with her infant son all day (and awake with him much of the night), she feels uneasy, adrift. She neglects her work, losing untold hours to her Brooklyn moms' Facebook group, her "influencer" sister's Instagram feed, and text messages with the best friend she never sees anymore. Enter Sam, a senior at the local women's college, whom Elisabeth hires to babysit.

Glad I listened
Revisado: 10-02-20
The first 40% was quite slow and seemed tediously detailed at points, however I really enjoyed the back half of the novel and thought the characters and story were well developed. The writing is excellent but needed a heavy edit. Narration is good

Historia
Blending literature and memoir, Ann Patchett, author of State of Wonder and Bel Canto examines her deepest commitments: to writing, family, friends, dogs, books, and her husband in This Is the Story of a Happy Marriage. Together, these essays, previously published in The Atlantic, Harper, Vogue, and The Washington Post, form a resonant portrait of a life lived with loyalty and with love.

These Are The Stories of a Happy Writer
Revisado: 08-11-20
First, it was great to actually hear Ann Patchett read her own work— a real treat. I’ve read three of Patchett’s works of fiction and was interested in her non-fiction. I wasn’t disappointed. Lots of great musings on the little things that make up life; and longer considerations of the bigger trials that make us who we are. AP strikes me as a pretty happy person, and maybe not naturally based on her discussions of childhood and early 20s. It was fun to see how events in life, small or large, shaped her. I would recommend this to fans of AP who are interested in her essay and non-fiction work.

Historia
"You'll change your mind." That's what everyone says to Jen Kirkman - and countless women like her - when she confesses she doesn't plan to have children. But you know what? It's hard enough to be an adult. You have to dress yourself and pay bills and remember to buy birthday gifts. You have to drive and get annual physicals and tip for good service. Some adults take on the added burden of caring for a tiny human being with no language skills or bladder control.

Jen Kirkman’s comedy specials on Netflix are some of my favorite, and I like her podcast too. It’s fun to hear Jen read her own work aloud.
