Historia
When Adam Piggott rode his motorbike across Australia chasing a girl he barely knew, he didn't understand much about anything at all. He wanted to change his life, but he didn't know how or what to change. The girl was the catalyst that forced him out of his comfortable existence. This is the story of how a young man with no direction ended up working as a river guide in a range of exotic locations around the world.

Very Fun Story
Revisado: 07-11-16
I picked up this book because I like the narrator, but ended up really liking it. I listened to it in one go while at work, without a second of boredom. The story is great, very fast paced and exciting. I've had some similar experiences as the author had in this book, so I was able to relate to a point, but I think Piggott way outdid me in the overall hedonism. The writing is great and you are quickly sucked into Piggott's life and world. I felt this book was a prime example of the extreme nihilism plaguing a great number of the exceptional men of western civilization. I only subtract a star from the story because the author did not realize this himself and steered the book to other conclusions. Also the propensity of the author to lie to other characters in the story made me wonder if he wasn't lying a little in telling the story... Either way, it was a great read and I give this book my wholehearted recommendation.

Over the course of 48 richly detailed lectures, Professor Garland covers the breadth and depth of human history from the perspective of the so-called ordinary people, from its earliest beginnings through the Middle Ages.

*Sigh* Another "far-left" (communist) historian
Revisado: 07-11-16
Some parts were good and others were downright painfully biased in this presentation.
1. Civilization arises from socialism (theft)
2. He loves Plato, ignores and slanders Aristotle endlessly
3. Goes all up into SJW terrory
4. Very pro-Muzzy views on the crusades
5. He sounds like he has a retainer on when he speaks, but not the worst voice

Good story, poor characters
Revisado: 11-12-15
Woman dresses like a man, and becomes a man, but better! Sorry, it's boring and predictable (and very unrealistic). I understand this is fantasy, but you have to account for the physical differences between women and men (menstruation, strength, body shape, etc). The author was probably trying to give the main character a flaw to create sympathy, but I feel it is a trope. The story was good but the characters were weak. I wasn't down with the lesbian love stuff either. Didn't finish.

If the narrator annoys you...
Revisado: 05-25-15
Listen to this at 1.5x or 2x speed and it is much more enjoyable. This is actually read quite well, if a bit too slow. And it's one of Sanderson's better works so it's worth a credit (with adjustment!).

Indispensable
Revisado: 04-13-15
This is THE guide for your loved ones entering college and, subsequently, the real world. I bought this having already experienced the dishonesty and lies of parents and teachers about degrees and the work force. However, I still found it immensely entertaining. It's sweet revenge to see someone cutting through the fog. The narration is done expertly as well, and Aurini does great deadpan.

True Grit of Vietnam Delivered
Revisado: 08-10-14
This is one of the most compelling stories that I have ever heard, and it was so good I listened to the entire 9 hours in one sitting. Sergeant Gillam's story is a roller-coaster of training, fighting, despair, and post-trauma recovery. He is also a true scholar and in each chapter provides the historical context of battles and events before going into his personal experiences. Sergeant Gillam-now Professor GIllam-is also an excellent storyteller and describes the battles and conflicts in the most lucid and realistic ways. The narration of this book is also excellent and is never boring or tiring. This man is not only a humanitarian and hero, but an intellectual and a scholar, and his harrowing memoir is amazing to say the least.
