Historia
June 1815. The people of London wait breathlessly for news as Napoléon and the forces united against him hurtle toward their final reckoning at Waterloo. Among them is Sebastian St. Cyr, Viscount Devlin, frustrated to find himself sidelined while recovering from a dangerous wound he recently received in Paris. When the mutilated corpse of Major Miles Sedgewick surfaces from the murky waters of the Thames, Sebastian is drawn into the murder investigation, which threatens one of his oldest and dearest friends, Irish surgeon Paul Gibson.

Awesome as always
Revisado: 05-16-23
The St Cyr story continues 👏🏼 I found this book to be just as fabulous as it’s predecessors. Truly, the narration IS NOT bad. I understand switching narrators is odd for the ears. I understand and agree that Ms. Porter is amazing. However, Jenny Sterlin is not awful to listen to by any means; just different from what was the norm in this series.

Jess needs a fresh start. She’s broke and alone, and she’s just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn’t sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn’t say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up – to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? – he’s not there.

Wow.
Revisado: 03-01-22
Let me begin by saying this isn’t my usual preferred genre but I received an email and this popped up as a new release recommendation. I clicked, read the description, and was honestly on the fence about it but I’m so glad I took the leap. I was unsure still but intrigued by the story line enough to keep going and about 5 hours in I was thoroughly hooked. It’s a story that builds and builds and then smacks you in the face. Incredible, deeply thought out and developed characters. Please, if you’re on the fence about it take the plunge, spend the credit, and thank me later ;)

Arabella Dempsey's dear friend Jane Austen warned her against teaching. But Miss Climpson's Select Seminary for Young Ladies seems the perfect place for Arabella to claim her independence while keeping an eye on her younger sisters nearby. Just before Christmas, she accepts a position at the quiet girls' school in Bath, expecting to face nothing more exciting than conducting the annual Christmas recital. She hardly imagines coming face to face with French aristocrats and international spies...

Oh goodness, one has to love Turnip.
Revisado: 03-19-21
Oh goodness, one has to love Turnip. This is my second time listening to this series, and this might possibly be my favorite. He is such an endearing man and this is a fun listen. I highly suggest those questioning spending an Audible credit on it to take the leap. Additionally, while the title suggests a Christmas theme there are few Christmas references and can easily be listened to in any season if that makes any difference to anyone.

Deciding that true romantic heroes are a thing of the past, Eloise Kelly, an intelligent American who always manages to wear her Jimmy Choo suede boots on the day it rains, leaves Harvard's Widener Library bound for England to finish her dissertation on the dashing pair of spies the Scarlet Pimpernel and the Purple Gentian. What she discovers is something the finest historians have missed: a secret history that begins with a letter dated 1803.

I should have listened sooner
Revisado: 04-08-18
I had this on my wish list for a long time and deleted it and then it came up in my recommendations after I finished another book and finally took the plunge. I believe it was the book description that had me feeling hesitant and now I know I shouldn’t have been. Historical fiction is my preferred genre and the idea of some of this book taking place in the present day just didn’t tickle my fancy so to speak. However the bulk of this book took place in 1803. The book offers mystery, romance, suspense and hidden identities. I would highly recommend this book to other historical fiction lovers and I certainly will be listening to the other books in this series.

Best audiobook I’ve listened to in awhile!
Revisado: 03-13-18
This historical romance had more substance to its plot than any other I’ve listened to. It forces a binge listen and you will not be disappointed. The romance aspect is quite hot and steamy as well and in different ways than your typical regency novel. The main characters were strong and enjoyable, opposites yet enough alike to make them fit in a believable way. Percy isn’t some flighty miss that you’d like to slap, but someone you’d like to befriend if she were real; and oh my...Gavin...(sigh...)

Meh.
Revisado: 12-04-17
I wanted to enjoy this book, and I wouldn’t say that I completely hated it. However, about halfway through I became irritated by Alex’s insecurities. I believe this may just be due to a personal pet peeve with insecure men; not all listeners would be in agreement with my feelings but this accounts for my rating on the story. As I said, this isn’t a bad novel, I quite enjoy Eloisa James’ other stories, I just had a difficult time with this particular one.

Such an enjoyable book! I cannot wait for the next book in the series. Steamy love, a crazed fan, and humor throughout, one couldn’t ask for more! Highly recommend read, it turned into a binge listen and I was saddened when it ended.

It's 1864 in downtrodden Lowell, Massachusetts. The Civil War has taken its toll on the town - leaving the economy in ruin and its women in dire straits. That is, until Asa Mercer arrives on a peculiar, but providential, errand: he seeks high-minded women who can exert an elevating influence in Seattle, where there are ten men for every woman. Fantastic story!
Revisado: 01-07-17
I LOVE historical fiction and this book has become one of my new favorites! After the story is over the author goes into more detail about the real Mercer party and how she inspiration form the women who made the journey to Seattle and their role in settling the new city. The characters are each lovely in their own way and do much to show different points of view of their situations. While it is a longer book to listen to, I found myself listening to it for multiple hours at a time and thinking about it after I had paused the story. If you enjoy historical fiction you'll love this story, absolutely worth the credit!
