So boring I can't get through it
Revisado: 08-15-23
I usually love Ann Patchett books. And this one, being narrated by Meryl Streep I expected to be great. I find the story very boring, nothing has happened and I'm several hours in. I rarely give up on a book but I'm not going to continue with this. Ugh.

Historia
Cass is having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods, on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, with the woman sitting inside - the woman who was killed. She's been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It's a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm. Her husband would be furious if he knew she'd broken her promise not to take that shortcut home. And she probably would only have been hurt herself if she'd stopped.

Entertaining story

Listened to this on a long road trip. It made the time pass so quickly! The story, a psychological thriller, had enough twists and turns to keep me guessing. It had very enjoyable characters. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Stupid
Revisado: 09-15-16
This book was so stupid. If started out ok but got more and more unbelievable. By the second half I was tired of listening to all the escape scenes. That's all it had. The ending was ridiculous. I wish I had the 10 hours back.

Interesting
Revisado: 02-09-13
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I did enjoy the book, and it was time well spent.
What was most disappointing about Leah Stewart’s story?
I was frustrated with the characters. And I don't think it ever really resolved why none of these adult "children" can grow up and support themselves. They were so "Entitled" and no one ever really faced or confronted them with that. I just wanted them to grow up.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Cassandra Campbell?
Yes, the narrator did a good job.
Could you see The History of Us being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Maybe. But I don't think I'd want to watch it - not enough happens.

Historia
In 1918, after four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia to take a job as the lighthouse keeper on remote Janus Rock. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes only four times a year and shore leaves are granted every other year at best, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Three years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel is tending the grave of her newly lost infant when she hears a baby’s cries on the wind. A boat has washed up on shore carrying a dead man and a living baby.

Wonderful story
Revisado: 10-25-12
Where does The Light Between Oceans rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It was one of the better audiobooks I've listened to. The characters were all very real, and the story one of a real moral dilemma. Each character was tragic and I really felt their pain and wanted things to turn out well for them.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The whole book moved me!
Any additional comments?
The performance was wonderful. The reader's Australian accent really gave the book a sense of place.
