Duck

Basically a .5 Book (2-3 stars)

This is basically a slice of life with Mack Sutton with 1 relatively big conflict. This does not advance the story, and the ending kinda sucks. It's the same formula, which if you got to #19, you are used to. He can't do that! Where's the check on his power! What gives him the right! Etc. To the extent it is like all the other books that should be a .5 book you will like. At this point I really wish the author would take the next 2-3 books to finish the story, then if still need to make money from this universe, create other stories within it. As it is, this dragging out of the story is getting ridiculous at this point.

It's a Maybe

This is a maybe. It moves along for most of book slowly, some action, then slower (how many ways can you describe a modern appliance in a post apocalyptic world?) and when the action comes across sometimes it is as a person describing it as opposed to living it--but it is good. But the main bad guy is so completely one dimensional that it is nonsensical. And there are plot/reason holes in the beginning and end. With all that being said--the first book is enjoyable mostly. I considered getting the second book, but based on the reviews (regarding the relationships etc.) likely won't. So...maybe try?

3 stars, worth the read/listen/credit. But--half the book and more is filled with interpersonal high-school drama that is just not needed. Other than that, story is otherwise good.

Probably Stopping Here

This started out as a good book and to be fair is a good book all the way to the end. But with the end of the book, I'm going to call it there.


Spoilers:


The issue that I have, is that in this genre you have a MC who works his way to becoming OP (some faster, some slower, but progress). The ending of this book completely wipes that away, with a little tease of a maybe. In a genre where we root for the MC and every power up--to wipe that away, and leave us only a hope that he gets it back--yeah not for me. This book is good though, so there's that.

Surprisingly Good

It took a little bit to get used to, but once that happened, what a surprisingly good (and insane) story. Worth the credit.

Great Story

Great continuation of the last book and series. One thing you have to love about these books is so much gets done in them! Some books will have a 20hr listen time and nothing gets done. These books have a great length and filled with great content. Can't wait for the next.

That First Blooper is Gold (the story, eh)

Naive and stupid MC is groomed by smarter and wiser women into relationships. That's pretty much this book. Nothing much happens, there are parts of pure utter dribble that I had to question my life choices--is listening to the whole book for about 10 minutes of content worth it? Probably not. But then again this is book 3, and I'm not saying I won't get the next one. Throw it on in the background and all. But if you are looking for anything more (or anything approaching a faster pace) this is not it. But that first blooper at end, hats off, that is pure gold.

Relationship Book

Naive goody tooshoo MC led around by smarter wiser women/female entities. Thay being said I am almost done with book 2. Just so you know going in, this is a relationship book, with maybe 1 or 2 explicit scenes, and some action/conflict scenes. It is definitely not fast paced, but when the action/fighting scenes come, the action is quick and done well. Fairly straightforward storytelling, a good book to pass the time.

So...It's Okay?

First to help you--this is a quasi cultivation book with a hint of litrpg, this is not the Land, it doesn't take place in the Land. With that realization the story may be better for you. But even with that, after the first part of the book where you might be expecting an exciting story---the book moves so, so, so slow. Really outside a few events nothing much happens. Which would be forgivable as a cultivation novel--but for the MC and his constant self reflection. About everything. I mean all the time even after saying he's accepting things, questioning those things ad nauseum. There were several times I didnt think I could make it through all the self bemoaning and self reflection (which is most of the book) but kept on b/c it's Aleron Kong. At best I can say is... it's OK? I don't know if I'll get the next, but hopefully it's better than that.
