Amateurish fan fiction
Revisado: 04-18-25
The story is weak and illogical. The story is a barely thought through set up for some action sequences the author must have imagined would be exciting but were just lame and lacking in any real tension. Kirk is not recognizable in his dialogue or behavior. Pretending to be green aliens because of a story they heard on alien radio was so dumb. I could not finish it. So dumb.

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Written from a soldier’s perspective with lots of stereotypes in the cast of shallow characters. Seems like he was writing for the future action movie

Historia
As President Trump’s national security advisor, John Bolton spent many of his 453 days in the room where it happened, and the facts speak for themselves. The result is one of the few White House memoirs to date by a top-level official. With almost daily access to the president, John Bolton has produced a precise rendering of his days in and around the Oval Office. What Bolton saw astonished him: a president for whom getting reelected was the only thing that mattered, even if it meant endangering or weakening the nation.

Overly detailed vanity project
Revisado: 07-15-20
Bolton gives more insight into the chaotic decision making at the heart of the Trump administration. However, it could have been done in half the words and without the constant self praise.

David Mitchell, who you may know for his inappropriate anger on every TV panel show except Never Mind the Buzzcocks, his look of permanent discomfort on C4 sex comedy Peep Show, his online commenter-baiting in The Observer or just for wearing a stick-on moustache in That Mitchell and Webb Look, has written a book about his life.

A Very Ordinary Fella
Revisado: 08-18-19
In a way, it was refreshing to have a brutally honest admission of how ordinary and boring his back story is. His recounting of his petty neuroses are relatable and slightly amusing, but for the most part it is an overly detailed and boring recounting of a pretty unremarkable life. The greatest sin is that it is mostly unfunny. It pales in comparison to his comedy partner's autobiography, How to Not Be A Boy and maybe gives some insight who is most responsible for their success.

A huge serving of Toast
Revisado: 02-15-19
A huge serving of Steven Toast, from the Channel 4 series Toast of London. Matt Berry is a comic genius and he takes audio books to a whole new meta level of funny, such as his disapproving asides when he reads a passage from his own memoirs that has been rewritten by his ghost writer or his occasional belching. If you love Toast, buy this book.

Historia
In Alan Partridge: Nomad, Alan dons his boots, windcheater and scarf and embarks on an odyssey through a place he once knew - it's called Britain - intent on completing a journey of immense personal significance. Diarising his ramble in the form of a 'journey journal', Alan details the people and places he encounters, ruminates on matters large and small and, on a final leg fraught with danger, becomes not a man (because he was one to start off with) but a better, more inspiring example of a man.

Historia
Remarkably relevant, beautifully written, and filled with wit and wisdom, these three essays by Bertrand Russell allow the listener to test the concepts of the good life, morality, the existence of God, Christianity, and human nature. "What I Believe" was used prominently in the 1940 New York court proceedings in which Russell was judicially declared "unfit" to teach philosophy at City College of New York. "Why I Am Not a Christian" concludes that churches throughout history have retarded progress and states that we should instead "look to our own efforts here below to make this world a fit place to live in." Finally, "A Free Man's Worship", perhaps the most famous single essay written by Russell, considers whether humans operate from free will.

can be hard to follow
Revisado: 12-16-18
by far, the most valuable and insightful essay is the first "what I believe " laying out Russell's advice on how to live a good life. However, it can be hard to follow Russell at times as he loves overly long sentences. I recommend reading the text whilst listening.

A scary car crash that goes on a bit long
Revisado: 09-29-18
an amazingly disturbing, behind the scenes expose of the chaotic oval office. I found myself laughing then distraught at the gravity of it all. It could do with a trim. It's like a reality show that goes one season too long.
