Historia
More than 2,000 years ago one of the greatest military leaders in history almost destroyed Rome. Hannibal, a daring African general from the city of Carthage, led an army of warriors and battle elephants over the snowy Alps to invade the very heart of Rome's growing empire. But what kind of person would dare to face the most relentless imperial power of the ancient world? How could Hannibal, consistently outnumbered and always deep in enemy territory, win battle after battle until he held the very fate of Rome within his grasp?

More of an opinion piece
Revisado: 10-25-24
This is written by someone who must be able to contact the dead.. They routinely tell you what people were thinking at the time of battles or choices even if there is no or very limited documentation on the issue. This is also a person who clearly thinks history is less important than showing imperialism is bad. I was honestly flabbergasted a few times with what this author was claiming.. If you want a real good book on the subject check out Adrian Goldsworthy or the book masters of command. Both are mentioned by the author but it seems like he has not read them.
Also the narration sounds like straight AI or robot reading.

This book tells the story of the Teams operating out of FOB2 Kontum, near the tri-border area, in 1968-69. From recon missions over the fence to the heroic, and sometimes fatal efforts undertaken to try and rescue missing SOG members, the events are told through the words of the men themselves, supported by previously unreleased official documents.

Narration killed it for me.
Revisado: 12-18-23
The narration of this book sounds about as close as it could be to being read by AI without it being read by AI. Overall The book is good and the experience is captured are very important, but instead I would recommend Uncommon Valor. It is a better written book and has drastically better narration. I cannot express how much the narration of this book killed it for me.

Historia
Simo Häyhä was a man of action who spoke very little, but he was respected by his men and his superiors and given many difficult missions, including taking out specific targets. Able to move silently and swiftly through the landscape, melting into the snowbound surroundings in his white camouflage fatigues, his aim was deadly and his quarry rarely escaped. The Russians learned of his reputation as a marksman and tried several times to kill him by indirect fire. He was promoted from corporal to second lieutenant and he was awarded the Cross of Kollaa.

I would not recommend this...
Revisado: 12-07-23
I came because of the promise of an interview with White Death. However, out of this entire book there is maybe an hour to 90 min of that. the rest of the book is a very cursiary overview of the war and his service in it. It does go into after the war but honestly most of the answers you would want answers to don't get answered. On top of that there is a lot of filler like 20 min on how to aim and another 20 on pulling the trigger. Overall you would be better off reading other books on him or even the Winter War book.

Point of view
Revisado: 06-01-23
The first half of this book is oddly, how Cicero interacted with the Roman republic more than a book about the Roman Republic or history of it. The second half of the book about the Roman empire is much better and less centric.
if you're interested in the history of the Roman Empire or Roman Republic. I would suggest Adrian goldsworthy and his many books.

There are better books on the topic
Revisado: 05-17-23
The author does an okay job but has obvious errors in her history. You can tell that most of the errors are from being unfamiliar with the topic at that point. However, that makes you question more of what she covers. The experts covered in this book also have their own book, you would be better served reading those. When the author is reading she has a lot of issues with pronunciation. This is with English words and other language words. All and all it's not bad but I would recommend other books like " Hunting the Jackal" and "Grey Man".

Historia
In three straight years he was a paratrooper, an army seaman, and a LRRP - and he lived to tell about it. As an FNG paratrooper in the 173d Airborne, John Leppelman made that unit's only combat jump in Vietnam. Then he spent months in fruitless search of the enemy, watching as his buddies died because of poor leadership and lousy weapons. Often it seemed the only way out of the carnage in the central highlands was in a body bag. But Leppelman did get out.

very short.
Revisado: 11-24-21
The narration was very good, however the book was overall very short without hardly any details. The entire book is like 2 hours long and that's 2 hours you don't learn anything. there's zero development of anybody including the main protagonist. This is definitely a book I would pass by.

This classic war memoir, first published in 1920, is based on the author's extensive diaries describing hard combat experienced on the Western Front during World War I. It has been greatly admired by people as diverse as Bertolt Brecht and Andre Gide, and from every part of the political spectrum. Hypnotic, thrilling, and magnificent, The Storm of Steel is perhaps the most fascinating description of modern warfare ever written.

A truly amazing story about American exceptionalism! The technological achievements discussed in this book going all the way back to the 1950s is absolutely mind-boggling. I truly enjoyed this story and finding out more about my own county. The performance by the narrator was exceptional! would highly recommend!
