excellent 1965 part police procedure part historical

excellent plot and characters connect. The plot of Inspector George Felse does not have a lot of forensic information but is well worth listening to for 1965 mystery when at least part of the book is good reading.

Historia
Ngaio Marsh’s most popular novel begins when a young New Zealander’s first contact with the English gentry is the body of Lord Wutherford - with a meat skewer through the eye.... The Lampreys had plenty of charm - but no cash. They all knew they were peculiar - and rather gloried in it. The double and triple charades, for instance, with which they would entertain their guests - like rich but awful Uncle Gabriel, who was always such a bore.

Historia
At the winter solstice, South Mardian's swordsmen weave their blades in an ancient ritual dance. But for one of them, the excitement proves too heady, and his decapitation turns the fertility rite into a pageant of death. Now Inspector Roderick Alleyn must penetrate not only the mysteries of folklore but also the secrets and sins of an eccentric group, including a surly blacksmith, a domineering dowager, and a not-so-simple village idiot.

Interest in The Mysteries of the Folk Dances
Revisado: 01-23-24
Nadia May had a good audio voice. She also read as Wanda McCaddon and Donada Peters. One of my favorite narrators in English fiction.
The mystery is written first of an annoyed 94 year old dame in a partial ruin. Other characters include five sons of a blacksmith who have different natures, a publication daughter, and Scoland Yard police. Then when a murder occurs on the folk dance, Roderick Alleyn starts to examine the facts.

World War II New Zealand Events
Revisado: 01-23-24
Never Really read a lot about the New Zealand during WW II including spies and the aboriginal people. Marsh included some details about the natives which I preferred to all the spy stuff.

1970s African and English Murder Mystery
Revisado: 01-23-24
This is an embarrassing book but I found some entertaining parts in the Alleyn story. I remembered what I learned in the US in school and other events. Listening to this story did not make it as bad as it could be to consider ambassadoral characters. Ngaio Marsh seems to have some early work about the protection of these African politicians.

The plot of the story about a love affair between a rector's daughter and a Squire's son is an entertaining story. Then a character is murdered and Scotland Yard is called in.

Silly Drug Mystery
Revisado: 01-22-24
Too old of a case for a story about Superintendent Roderick Alleyn, his wife Troy and his only son, 5 year old Ricky. There are idiotic cult members and a silly marijuana plot that made marijuana the idea that is supposed to be as dangerous as heroin.
All right I remember some overdone books written by Mary Stewart or maybe some books like Murder Must Advertise where cocaine was the villain in the 1930s. I remember marijuana in our years in high school from 1968 onward.

Historia
On Buried Bones, journalist Kate Winkler Dawson and retired investigator Paul Holes dissect some of history’s most compelling true crime cases from centuries ago. Together, they explore these very old cases through a 21st century lens. With their years of expertise and knowledge of modern forensics, they reflect on how far science has come and bring new insight to old mysteries. Together, Kate and Paul have examined many cases including the 1932 Lindbergh baby kidnapping, the first time fingerprinting was used as evidence in a courtroom and a possible serial killer in 1960s Nashville. They...

Interesting
Revisado: 03-02-23
I Remember the story of Sam Sheppard even though I wasn't born until 1955, a year before his wife's death. I remembered the television show that was sort of based on the death of his wife. I also heard about Sheppard's second trial in 1966 that I found fascinating from newspaper articles as well as television news.
Anyway Kate Winkler Dawson made me at times wonder whether she was correct in her reporting. But a look at other times I did find that she was correct.
Also Paul Holes gave interesting points in answering some of his thoughts.
I am eager to read about the second half of this podcast although I would like a fuller story.
