Awesome
Revisado: 09-12-24
I loved this whole series and if this truly is the last book as it seems to be, it wrapped things up with a bow on top. This entire line was well written, excellently narrated and wildly entertaining. Thank you to everyone involved! I hope to meet Ned, Frank and the gang again someday for new adventures but will return again to relive these.

Meh
Revisado: 10-21-23
I have loved the entire Spellmonger series. As a late comer to the books I've binged listened to the first 15 and all of the side books back to back to back. That said, this book was a slog. I nearly gave up on it numerous times.
I love the character of Gatina in the main story line but nothing happens in this book at all. The difference in some pronunciation that others have complained about didn't really bother me as much as I thought it would but the long, long stretches of absolutely nothing going on was brutal.
I'll definitely keep tuning in to the other books but I think I'm done with this side trek.

Definitely the worst of the three
Revisado: 07-18-22
I have to agree with others on this one, it's the worst of the trilogy and really lost it in the last half of the book. David Thorpe's performance was great but it was like Feist got bored with the whole story and blew through the rest of it. A real let down for a tale with so much potential.

Amazing
Revisado: 01-27-22
Absolutely loved this book, I loved it so much that I bought a hardcopy to make referring back a lot easier. It's clear, concise, well laid out and excellently narrated. It's also almost disturbingly accurate. So many times I found myself nodding my head or thinking "that's me". The paths steps toward getting better are excellent and easy to follow, though I have no illusion that the work required with make them easy to execute at times. I listened through the entire book the first time, now Illgo back and start the work that I need to do. Thank you so much for this resource!

Historia
The manhunt has officially begun. Now the target of a game-wide Holy War, Ned is forced to flee the Onyx Sands. The odds are stacked against him; Tyrann has tens of thousands of followers, a religion that’s spreading like wildfire, and a powerful god that will be stepping into the world of EBO in a matter of days. Meanwhile, Ned’s allies are a squirrel-exploding bard, a repurposed home security system who takes her instructions far too literally, and a wildly unreliable talking axe named Frank. But even as the inevitable conflict draws closer, change is coming to EBO.

Fast paced, great characters, wonderful dialog and a rollicking ride. I can't even remember how many times I nearly spit coffee from taking an ill timed drink during conversations. Keep them coming, can't wait for the next book!

31 hours I'll never get back
Revisado: 09-02-21
An epically long, tediously boring science lesson. All well and good if that's what you were after but incredibly disappointing if you wanted a great story. The characters were mostly flat, the plot goes into deep depths of details but never really goes anywhere. It's as if you were reading a historical book on a fictional event. I listened a bit, went to a different book, came back, switched books again and finally finished this out of pure stubbornness & hoping for an eventual payoff that never came. Don't get me started on the ending, it's as if Stephenson realized the whole tale was going nowhere and grabbed for a quick exit.
The narration was ok. I usually like Duval but MRK's male voice threw me every time.
As an introduction to Stephenson, I chose the wrong book. In time I'll pick one of the better one's but only after a cooling down period from this one.

A terrible fall indeed
Revisado: 08-23-21
I loved Anita and Hamilton's work until I relived every moment of prior books in every new one that's come out. What's fine for a newer series suddenly becomes tedious when you've heard it at least 10 times before. Here, it's the dialog. I lost count of how many times I yelled "so what" or "get on with it" as I struggled to the finish line. The action scenes are great and move well but sadly this book seems to be more of a primer on spirituality than novel. Fine in its place but I was looking for a story.
If you enjoy conversations between characters that lead nowhere or cover every excruciating detail multiple times in the same scene, you'll love it. I really wanted to enjoy this book, hoping that a change of characters and "worlds" would help rekindle my love of Hamilton's work but it's just the same ol song and dance.

Just bad
Revisado: 07-13-21
Hated it. Bad narration, incredibly bad story telling led by the single most naive lead characters in the modern world ignoring warnings so glaring that they could have been lit in neon lights and sounding blaring klaxons. So ridiculous that I couldn't make it past the first chapter. Heed the warnings and pass on this one.
