Historia
At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

If Christianity had a required reading list (aside from the Bible) this would be on it. But even if you aren't a Christian, the historical account alone is worth the listen.

Historia
In virtually every way that can be measured, Gen Z’s mental health is worse than that of previous generations. Youth suicide rates are climbing, antidepressant prescriptions for children are common, and the proliferation of mental health diagnoses has not helped the staggering number of kids who are lonely, lost, sad and fearful of growing up. What’s gone wrong with America’s youth? In Bad Therapy, bestselling investigative journalist Abigail Shrier argues that the problem isn’t the kids—it’s the mental health experts.

Relevant insight for everyone!
Revisado: 07-01-24
I can't recommend this book enough! It's a timely read full of ah-ha moments and convicting insights. Although I didn't fully relate to the parents or kids described in her analysis, by the end of the book I was still inspired and encouraged to make some changes and adjustments in my parenting. Thank you for writing this, Abigail. The world needs it badly!

Historia
Marcus Flavius Aquila, a young centurion in Roman Britain, is forced into retirement after receiving a wound in his first major engagement against a rebel British tribe. It allows him the freedom to embark upon a dangerous mission to find out what happened to the Ninth Legion, which, years before, disappeared in the savage lands of the Picts. Will he find out what happened to the men, led by his father, who never returned? And will he recover the Eagle, the symbol of Roman dominance and power?

Specifically this version
Revisado: 01-27-22
I got this audio version for my kids to listen to while also following along in their physical books, but this version skips whole lines and sometimes paragraphs of texts. They only listened to a few chapters so this isn't a review of the book itself, but rather this version of the audio.

How do you know when to stay and when to go? In The Complicated Heart, you will travel through Sarah's story with her, from age 14 and beyond, as she wrestles with these very questions. Prepare yourself: She holds nothing back.

Historia
How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Fascinating must-read!
Revisado: 11-08-19
First of all, I thoroughly enjoyed the podcast component of incorporating as many audio clips or reenactments as possible. The whole narration and production was very well done. Secondly, I found Gladwell's approach to the many different aspects of our interactions with people to be thought provoking and challenging of the overly simplistic explanations for which we often settle. In my interpretation, no one is made a hero, nor a villain. We are all much more complicated than that and our dealings with each other should reflect that truth.
