Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

I finished the book
Revisado: 08-21-23
Hey if I finish a book it's not too bad. It' just not a great book. The characters are almost all very very bad or so good and noble. It reads more like a Young Adult novel.
The catholic church is just horrible but science is so good and noble. The book was enjoyable but it's message and sophistication is very college sophmore.

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

Revisado: 03-16-21
This is one of the best books I have listened to in a long time. The writing was beautiful, the characters well developed, the narration was absolute perfection. This was my first Sophia Segovia book and I will certainly listen to more.

Historia
Sophia Chang is a badass of the music industry. As the daughter of Korean immigrants in predominantly white suburban Vancouver, she grew up shunning the “model minority” myth. Armed with a fierce sense of independence, she moved to New York City and infiltrated the world of hip-hop, yet remained mostly in the shadows of the artists she supported. With her debut memoir, Sophia Chang is finally ready to grab the mic for herself.

Easy listen, not going to change you.
Revisado: 03-08-21
I can listen to people talk about their lives all day. So I enjoyed that, Sophia likes to talk and she has a interesting life.
There is nothing in this book that is going to change your life or improve your life. There is probably not much you can take away. BUT if you want a listen about someone's life then this is for you. I was not left with the idea that Sophia Chang is the Baddest Bitch in the Room, or even now all that important or prominent in her field.
I think I listened to a story about a hard working woman who loves Hip Hop and was able to work in the music field to varying success. I think the best most catchy part of her book is the trailer where she is sort of posing and dancing around talking about how she can wear stilettoes and "drop it like it is hot".
Now, I am going to admit something about myself, I am bored AF and turned off with wokeness. I just find that whole thing very toxic. I am not saying Chang is herself toxic but I find the woke mindset toxic. I know not everyone agrees with me. So much of this book was railing against white people and lots of what I call "neo racism". Neo Racism meaning, racism that is acceptable for our current time. Namely - being racist against white people is acceptable. Being sexist against men is acceptable.
Yes when she was a child she was teased, sometimes she was teased because she is Asian. I too was teased when I was a child, but no I am not Asian. I was teased about the way I looked and certain challenges I have, etc. IMO, A truly Bad Bitch would not fixate on stuff like that.
Anyway - I am revealing enough of myself because for some people they like that kind of wokeness and neo racism and are fine with it and if that is you then you might like this book better than I did.
I gave the story 3 stars because I finished the book, I never finish a book I can't give at least three stars. It was not an impactful book for me, I can't recommend it to anyone. However, I did not hate it and I think Sophia is interesting to listen to.

Very Pleasant
Revisado: 09-23-20
This story had some engaging characters but pretty predictable. I did enjoy it and I often don't finish audio books. So if you are in the mood for a comfortable and pleasant magical romance this is the book for you.

In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

One of the best produced audio books here on Audible I have ever listened to. Very compelling, kept me interested. The overall book was very good so 4 stars. The ending was subpar which is why not 5 stars.

Kinda fun
Revisado: 05-20-19
This was kinda fun. I think comedy is really hard to write well and then perform well and they did and decent job. I don't think this is worth a credit, there are funnier books out there. But if you can get it on sale it is worth a few bucks.

Historia
Ever since the release of her seminal first book, Sexual Personae, Camille Paglia has remained one of feminism's most outspoken, independent, and searingly intelligent voices. Now, for the first time, her best essays on the subject are gathered together in one concise volume. At once illuminating, witty, and inspiring, these essays are essential listening that affirm the power of men and women and what we can accomplish together.

Important Critique of FeminismToday
Revisado: 06-12-17
Not everyone is going to like Paglia and if you do decide you like her then most likely you are not going to agree with her on all topics. However she is a very important voice in Feminism today. There is a reason why most young women don't want to identify as feminist. To leave Feminism uncriticized is to not do feminists any favors. We need open minded, intelligent, thought provoking voices, ideally from women offering alternative points of view. I appreciate her ideas of "equal opportunity feminist", a feminism that works for men and women for the improvement of general society. I appreciate her being pro-male and giving men their due in society.
Where I think she falls down in this book is her over use of high academic terms that people like myself have no foundation of reference. Her over use of Apollonian, Rousseau, and in my mind obscure Hollywood references. For me it takes away from her message.

Very Good
Revisado: 02-21-17
This is a better than average book. Really more of a 4.5 stars for the story. Very creative, I enjoyed the imagery and the dialogue. The narrator was very close to perfect.
A really fun twisting, windy plot full of surprises.
My only criticism is this probably should have been a bit shorter. It could have been edited a bit better. To be fair, this is my criticism of so many books.
I would definitely be interested in more books by Drew Magary.

Mattie Ross, a 14-year-old girl from Dardanelle, Arkansas, sets out to avenge her Daddy who was shot to death by a no-good outlaw. Mattie convinces one-eyed "Rooster" Cogburn, the meanest U.S. marshal in the land, to ride along with her. In True Grit, we have a true American classic, as young Mattie, as vital as she is innocent, outdickers and outmaneuvers the hard-bitten men of the trail in a legend that will last through the ages.

One of the best audiobooks
Revisado: 02-07-17
I am not normally attracted to the Western genre. This is one of the best audiobooks I have listened to in a long time. The story is simple, the characters and dialogue is very engaging. The narration is beyond perfection. I would listen to this one again.
