Historia
The Gods are dead. The Magelord Salazar and his magically enhanced troops, the Augmentors, crush any dissent they find in the minds of the populace. On the other side of the Broken Sea, the White Lady plots the liberation of Dorminia, with her spymistresses, the Pale Women. Demons and abominations plague the Highlands. The world is desperately in need of heroes. But what they get instead are a ragtag band of old warriors, a crippled Halfmage, two orphans and an oddly capable manservant: the Grim Company.

tries to be Abercrombie but falls well short

pretty bland. I ended up skipping the PoV of the "main" character most of the time and it greatly improved the book.

Great Fantasy in a Roman Setting
Revisado: 07-16-12
Guy Gavriel Kay is a master. His character and world building are fantastic and the plot takes unexpected and engrossing turns. If I have one complaint it is that Kay can get a little too deep and dramatic. The narrator does a fine job and captures Kay's intentions very well.

Revisado: 07-11-12
Good end to the series with lots of action and plot twists. I really wish Canavan would lay off plugging gay rights into the book (we get it stop smashing our face with it.) After reading the reviews of the next series it looks like it only gets worse so I doubt I'll buy them.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Very Entertaining
Revisado: 06-26-12
I had no idea what to expect from this one and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. The plot twists were very unpredictable and the characters easy to like/hate as needed. To put the cherry on top the narrator was excellent.

Tried to like it, just couldnt.
Revisado: 05-31-12
I really tried to like this book. I listened to 2/3 of it and just couldn't keep going. The main character is just entirely too much a pile of crap. He gets into all these ridiculous situations that could be funny if you were rooting for him, but he is so obnoxious you can't.

Historia
They say Black Dow has killed more men than winter and clawed his way to the throne of the North up a hill of skulls. The King of the Union, ever a jealous neighbor, is not about to stand by smiling while Black Dow claws his way any higher. The orders have been given, and the armies are toiling through the northern mud. Thousands of men are converging on a forgotten ring of stones, on a worthless hill, in an unimportant valley, and they've brought a lot of sharpened metal with them.

Great transition from the earlier books that took place over long periods to about a week in this one. I wish they had stuck with Pacey narrating but Page does alright. If you liked all of the other books you'll enjoy this one too.

Engaging story and characters, Dick Hill ruins it
Revisado: 11-25-11
I liked the story and world created by Durham but Dick Hill is just way to dramatic a narrator. I thought I could get over his narration and got the next book in the series but I could not finish it. I'm gonna get the hard copy.

Odd
Revisado: 11-29-10
First the book, a weird blend of fantasy and sci-fi that doesn't really make any sense until close to the end of the book. I really enjoyed parts of the book but I got really tired of all the pointless social and political posturing that no young teenager would do and I got tired of all pointless theoretical physics that the author seems to love. The cool abilities of the main characters are interesting but the author rambles on about ramifications and theories about time traveling. Even though it is the first book of a series it does have a reasonable ending that provides a story for the rest of series without leaving you hanging.
There are a few narrators for the different characters and some of them are OK but others suck. The guy in the sample does most of the book so if you like him don't worry about the narrators.
I probably won't buy the rest of the series but I might rent the hard copies.

Good enough
Revisado: 10-22-10
I don't want to just keep repeating the other reviews but they're right, the writing is OK but the narrator is really bad. He makes the male characters sound mentally challenged and the women shrill. The character Kip is supposedly 15 but the narrator characterizes him as a 10 year old most of the time. If the rest of the series has a different narrator I will probably get them through audible but if the same guy does them I'll get the paper version.
This book is not nearly as good as the Night Angle books. If you want to give Weeks a try get those first. Other books that I would suggest before this are the First Law books by Abercrombie or any of Sanderson's books.
