mediocre
Revisado: 05-16-24
Liked the characters and felt they were well developed given the long length of the book. The story lines were developed in detail but none had adequate closure. The ending was abrupt and felt unfinished. For example Richard and Dora- left hanging there. No idea how Nina and Joseph ended up. None of the male characters were particularly nice people. Just an odd concoction of stories that weren’t well connected or ended. Narration was good.

Historia
Amber Patterson is fed up. She's tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more - a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted. To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne - a socialite and philanthropist - and her real-estate mogul husband, Jackson, are a couple straight out of a fairy tale. Amber's envy could eat her alive...if she didn't have a plan.

Really not good
Revisado: 01-03-23
Poorly written- basic. Narration horrible. I stuck it out to the end but wish I hadn’t. Predictable, and the characters were all unlikeable.

Historia
Overworked and underappreciated, single mom Amy Byler needs a break. So when the guilt-ridden husband who abandoned her shows up and offers to take care of their kids for the summer, she accepts his offer and escapes rural Pennsylvania for New York City. Usually grounded and mild mannered, Amy finally lets her hair down in the city that never sleeps. She discovers a life filled with culture, sophistication, and - with a little encouragement from her friends - a few blind dates.

Mediocre perhaps better to read than audio
Revisado: 01-19-20
Characters were interesting. Often dialog was predictable. Plot was also pretty predictable. Was annoyed by title character Amy’s tangents- she would end up on extensive background or side stories in the midst of a conversation or situation and often this felt more like being sidetracked rather than relevant to better understanding. A couple of times this was so tedious I almost
stopped listening. Average overall.

Good story, tedious format
Revisado: 03-21-19
Liked the story, although very predictable. Detested the journal/letter/correspondence format. The dates, constant repetition of addresses, and prices of stamps, gas, etc. was cheesy. Wouldn't recommend.

Mediocre,gratuitous
Revisado: 09-24-18
This was predictable, basic and random graphic descriptions of sexual encounters that were unnecessary to the story. The characters were interesting, however the dialog was unimaginative. Use of “Ha ha” became at first annoying, then had me wishing I had counted them all or had incorporated it into drinking game it was used so much. Meh.

Don't be swayed by the TV version
Revisado: 06-06-18
The Netflix episodes of The Crown are captivating and interesting. This was a snooze- I believe it was meant to provide some historical context for the TV adaptation, but this was dry and boring. The narrator's attempt to connect the film version to this "official companion" were weak at best.
Do not recommend and had to force myself to finish Volume 1. Will not buy Volume !!.
