Old guilts come together
Revisado: 11-30-16
The performer of this audiobook sounds like a 20 something-year-old man just as the narrator of the book. The mystery has many twists and turns. As with many mysteries some suspension of disbelief is required. It is especially required in this book due to the young age and inexperience of the sleuths. The story was filled with many social issues and Vietnam popped it hoary head up.

A great book with many issues
Revisado: 10-31-16
This book questions whether there is justice in the judicial system as well as bringing love between a parent and child into the forefront of a murder case. It makes you wonder about the reality of a murder gene. And an ending that will stun you.

Historia
This essay by Thoreau first published in 1849, argues that individuals should not permit governments to overrule their consciences. It goes on to say that individuals have a duty to avoid allowing the government to make them the agents of injustice. The quote: "That government is best which governs least," sometimes attributed to Thomas Jefferson or Thomas Paine, actually was first found in this essay. Thoreaus' thoughts were motivated by his disgust with slavery and the Mexican-American War but they are still relevant and resonate today.

Can the thoughts of 1849 be applied in the 21st-century?
Revisado: 08-05-16
Henry David Thoreau gave us a lot to think about how we ought to organize our lives. You can listen to this audible book in about an hour. It is one of the most quoted essays by the war tax resistance movement.

The childhood life of A migrant farm worker
Revisado: 06-09-16
This is the autobiographical story of the life of a child in a Mexican migrant farm worker family. The author tried to write a story which would be accessible to both children and adults. It is the story of a hard-working family faces most of the problems of a migrant family but the boy who is the narrator of the story very positively wins out over the problems until the man in the green uniform from the border patrol comes into his eighth-grade classroom and take him away.

Jack London was an American author who wrote The Call of the Wild and other books. A pioneer in the then-burgeoning world of commercial magazine fiction, he was one of the first Americans to make a lucrative career exclusively from writing. Historia
Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

Another feminist London detective novel?
Revisado: 03-19-16
This audible presentation had all the appropriate English voices and words. Mysteries with the protagonist being a woman are very popular these days. Efforts to portray the detective as a feminist are also quite common but in this case I thought the effort at feminism fell quite short. The effort to present the psychology of several of the major characters was very good I thought.
