Expected it to be Good, got Fantastic.
Revisado: 10-09-24
Story brought me back to a world I spent a lot of time in as a youth. Nostalgic, true to the original books and a great jump back into earlier times on Midkemia if you've found yourself deep into later books in the timeline, but missing the earlier struggles of the original Riftwar.

Had to be persistent but it did payoff...
Revisado: 08-10-24
It wasn't till the 3rd try that I pushed through and listened to the entirety of this book. I'm a big Raymond E. Feist fan, but listening only to the beginning of Talon of the Silver Hawk it sounded like Feist was just trying to shoehorn a Native American apologist story into the world of Midkemia and I had no interest in that at all. But I made myself give it one more (longer) try & found a novel that was much more entertaining and interesting than I expected. While it feels much narrower than previous novels and focuses on the life of one very flawed character, it hints at the story becoming much broader in the next few novels with circumstances that have the potential to affect the whole world.
While they are just personal preferences, I was also disappointed to hear just how far removed in time these novels occured from my beloved Riftwar with many of my favorite characters being long dead. Still, with the many elements that were familiar and Feist's great style, its well worth your time.
Oh, I will mention that Feist personally seems to adopted a few new interests since his Riftwar days and spends a noticeable amount of time proselyting (tizing?) for the lifestyles of wine tasting & free love.

Historia
For 20 years the mercenaries Durine, Kethol, and Pirojil have fought other people's battles. Having already defeated the Tsurani, the Bugs, and the goblins, it seems there are no more enemies for them to vanquish - even as the Riftwar rages on in the west. What lies ahead for the able trio are a few welcomed months of restful garrison duty. When ordered to accompany the promiscuous Lady Mondegreen, her aging husband, and her current lover to a summit in the city of LaMut, the Three Swords willingly comply, expecting an uncomplicated and undemanding assignment.

Revisado: 08-06-24
A very enjoyable return to the world of Midkemia. Great narrator, fun characters, good pacing and a fun detective story in a fantasy setting. I would love more of these kinds of peripheral stories not only in this world, but also with the specific main characters of this novel.

Incredible in Every Way - Need More!
Revisado: 07-24-24
Voice, plot, pacing, and action are all great. What I appreciate most though are the authors grasp of the complexities of human nature. Its so nice to see there are creative people out there that haven't bought into the idea that all people are naturally good. (Buying into that doesn't make you a good person, it just makes you naive.) However, while people aren't inherently good, there is such a thing as Good and Evil and every day you have decisions to make on which side of that you come down on.
it's so refreshing to have the authors right from a perspective that understands that.
Also - I could listen to RC Bray read the back of a cereal box till I die and feel that I lived a good life.

It's a gorgeous autumn day in Georgetown. The Democratic candidates for president and vice-president of the United States are dutifully glad-handing voters and the media outside a grand estate where a national-security conference has just been held, bringing together the world's greatest minds to discuss the issues that are threatening the country. It's American politicking at its best. That's when all hell breaks loose.

An inspired author at his best, and a gifted narrator at the top of his game.
Virtually all of Mr. Abnett's works are just incredible but this has got to be one of his best. Likewise, Toby Longworth has such incredible range and here his talents pull you into a living, breathing universe of towering destruction, heretical deception, and desperate sacrifice,

Quietly Fascinating.

I loved the information, the personal anecdotes, and how the lectures were structured. My only problem was he spoke in what felt like a whisper most the time. I kept trying to turn up the volume but eventually I just accepted that I needed to listen closer to this one and give it more of my attention. When it was finished I was glad I had gotten it and had a much clearer idea of the Vikings and how their culture still influences us today.
