Great listen - but crazy chronology. Needs repair

Story was funny, reader was perfect. However - Chapter 21 on the recording was a repeat of Chapter 1. There is no Chapter 21. Chapter 25 repeats itself in Chapter 26, and each subsequent chapter is off. The missing Chapter 26 was important to the story line (I had to go out and buy the book.) In Chapter 22 (23?), the recording had numerous hiccups and blurbs. I just continued and eventually it stopped.

Can you please correct this recording? I'd really like to listen again.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you've ever read and enjoyed a book by James Lee Burke, run to buy this one. It's his best ever.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Clete and Dave - especially as read by Will Patton.

What about Will Patton’s performance did you like?

Patton's ability to create so many easily distinguished characters using only his gifted voice and his sense of timing - once again bring Clete, Dave, and a dozen other characters to life. His ability to create believable South Louisiana characters - both from New Orleans and from Bayou Country - is astounding. No native could do it.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

It doesn't need a tag line.

Any additional comments?

I'm getting ready to begin again at the beginning.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The reader's mispronunciations distract the listener. Over and over: The Duh-NOOB. Really. Context tells us she's trying to say Danube. Grade Five geography curriculum. A professional reader needs to prepare in advance. Throughout, the mispronunciation of commonly known Germanic words distracted from the story. Even the name of Sisi's second daughter, Giesela, was mispronounced. Do your homework!

What did you like best about this story?

The author's enhancement of the historical backgrounds of Sisi, Franz, Sophie, and the other characters and of so many historical incidents - while fiction - created a good story.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Madeleine Maby?

Someone who bothered to prepare.

Could you see The Accidental Empress being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

This book would make an excellent series.

Any additional comments?

Sisi's story is a fascinating one. If you are interested in this book, read it, don't listen.

Would you try another book from Dolores Cannon and/or the narrators?

Dolores Cannon has followers, so I decided to try one of her books. The writing is poor. I don't own the book, but would like to know this: Does the text itself actually state, "... so to say," in every paragraph? Do spirits really say that? I might read another book by Cannon, but the female narrator of this book was terrible.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Cannon's assertions are interesting. Some of her conclusions match those of other writers in this genre, but some stray afield. Who knows who's right?

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Dozens of mispronounced words cause distraction. One that made me laugh out loud was "douche linn" for "Deutschland". The narrator's accent itself was distracting as well.

Was Between Death and Life worth the listening time?

No. I'd recommend reading the text.

Any additional comments?

A different narrator might have caused me to assign four stars, rather than three. I'm trying to be fair.

Would you consider the audio edition of Keepers of the Garden to be better than the print version?

NO

Any additional comments?

The quality of the woman's narration is strange. It's disconnected, overly pronounced, disjointed, halting, and in many ways a distraction from the story itself. It would be good to have the book re-read for audible by an experienced reader who is vocally trained.

Where does Crusader's Cross rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's at the top of the list ... as are ALL of the Dave Robicheaux books recorded by Will Patton.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Dave. And Clete's right behind ... and sometimes a little ahead. The characters are so real, and Burke's philosophy rings so true, and the atmosphere he creates ... I suppose that if you've never lived in South Louisiana, you might not believe it. But Burke's voice tells it like it is.

Any additional comments?

PLEASE request that Will Patton re-record the Dave Robicheaux books 1-13. The other narrators just didn't get it; words were mispronounced and though an attempt at the regional dialect was made, it wasn't achieved. Patton's narration is so superior that I'd purchase them again.

... in my head. The characters are exceptionally well developed and the plot zips its listener from one mysterious (or frightening) situation to another without losing focus. I finished this book about a month ago and am still thinking about some of its underlying themes. I LOVED it! I had not previously read Justin Cronin, but I certainly will now!
