Historia
Slough House is a dumping ground for British intelligence agents who've screwed up cases in any number of ways - by leaving a secret file on a train or blowing a surveillance. River Cartwright, one such "slow horse", is bitter about his failure and about his tedious assignment transcribing cell phone conversations. When a young man is abducted and his kidnappers threaten to broadcast his beheading live on the Internet, River sees an opportunity to redeem himself.

Gerard Doyle’s narration was perfect!
Revisado: 05-23-24
It was hard to keep the number of characters straight in this book; maybe because the book wasn’t very long, so there was less time for character development…

Bad HeadCold??
Revisado: 12-29-16
The main narrator, who followed Kevin T. Collins' 5-star, excellent introduction, sounded as if he either had a horrendous cold, or needs emergency sinus surgery-- his obstructive nasal voice was distracting, as was his telltale east coast accent..

The only survivor of a Cossack raid on her village, she takes with her a big cast-iron frying pan, so heavy that she can only sling it over her back. Yet this is no ordinary frying pan, it's The Family Frying Pan, blessed with a Russian soul.

Stick with Humphrey Bower-- there's no one better
Revisado: 05-01-15
Liked Humphrey Bower's accent much better than the woman narrator. He is simply brilliant and renders Courtenay's books just sublimely.
I'd give his portion of the narration a 10 if I could!

Bleak for Burke, ruined by narrator..
Revisado: 04-08-15
How could a narrator so thoroughly ruin the beauty of a James Lee Burke novel????
There oughta be a law: No One other than Will Patton can narrate Burke. Any other combo is sacrilegious.
