decent story line with plenty of plot twists. the female narrator's male voice is hands down WAAAAY more believable as a mafia head than this male narrator's voice. I found myself tuning out when he was speaking so I'm sure I missed a ton of the little things.

this group in the timeline has 1 more book to go. i don't know if I can take anothe 16 hrs of this narrator though. the guy who narrated the last set was cringy to me but this woman is worse yet! her voices are so annoying I zone out and have no idea what has happened through most of the 1st 2 books. convince me I need to finish the set....

The rhythm & pronounciations are SO AWFUL. Dagger is pronounced day-ger, malevolent is pronounced melelovent, and so many others that are so annoying! There is a consistent odd rhythm to her speech that is so regular it HAS to be programmed rather than natural. her inflection is normal though, which has not been my experience with AI.
The stories are nothing special. Too much internal dialogue that really does nothing to advance the story line, just makes your attention wander.

Enough with the endless self flagellating inner monologues! the first book had a few, the second mote, and so far this one is really loafed with them. Perhaps I'm just finally too old for teen/young adult driven books. I find myself rolling my eyes continuously and wishing they would JUST GET ON WITH THE STORY!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!

I was excited to see that a male voice was being added in this book, but then I heard him. His voice is excessively nasal, and hard to listen to.

This story line has a lot of potential and frankly is the only reason I'm still here at this point. Unfortunately, at least for me, it's getting buried under way too much inner angst and insecurity, and now a voice that makes me cringe. My advice is read the book rather than listen to the audio book. you can skip the unnecessary/ boring stuff and get the best part of the story.

WOW! It seems like I've been listening for over an hour. I'm halfway through the 2nd chapter and nothing has happened except a girl with lots of anxiety describing what sounds like she's tripping on 'shrooms. Enough already! I can't listen to any more.
The narrator sounds like someone I wouldn't mind listening to if the material was different. I understand from other reviews that this all gets cleared up "later", but I'm old enough I don't have the life to spare waiting. I suggest the writer split all this angst and muddy water up with something intelligible rather than pouring it all out in one LOOOOOOOOOOONG drawn out monologue. It's just too painful this way.

I'm torn. I just started book 3 in the complete chronicles, and while I am not in love with the story or the characters, I do feel a need to see what happens next. I have to say that I think my biggest issue is the EXTREMELY THICK BROGUE of the narrator. I actually LOVE listening to him read but for the life of me I have a horrible time trying to figure out what he is saying! I am mesmerized by the delightful way he can make the word " who" sound like it has 3 syllables, and give that simple "o" a dizzying array of vowel sounds that seem to encompass the entire litany of vowels in the alphabet! And yet, the biggest problem I think I am having as far as connecting with the characters is the way those thick brogue pronunciations remain in every accent and voice he uses for the myriad of characters in the story. It's clear that there are supposed to be quite a variety of accents among the voices, but they all seem to sound like the same accent with an alarming set of nasal issues, drunken slurs and speech impediments. The main character actually comes across sounding pretty much like an idiot because of it, making him difficult to give 2 figs about.
I am no stranger to narrators with accents that are far removed from what I hear on a day to day basis, but I really only understand about half of what he says without thinking through it or better yet, following along in the book while he reads it to me. I really think this is one that would be better for me to read rather than listen to but at this point I can't say I'm interested enough to put in the time.

I almost stopped listening several times, but I hate not finishing something so I slogged through. I figured it would be a rough ride when I first started and didn't care for the narrator. when she does a male voice, it's almost laughable. The female character has a habit of asking a lot of questions and the narrator voices her MANY "Why" questions like she's Fran Drescher. At some point I started to mimic her every time she said it which got me plenty of looks. The male narrator was marginally better but read very little in this book, maybe 2 very short chapters.
The story itself is pretty juvenile. The exchanges between the lead character and, well, just about everyone else, sound like bickering children. It's hard to reconcile the person in these exchanges with the "very special" and amazingly "strong" and "brave" and "gifted" person she supposedly is to the other characters. Yes the writer puts her in situations where she seems to display these traits but fantasy book or not, it's all just too poorly done to get caught up in and start believing.

Though I would like to see where the story goes from this very obvious cliff-hanger, I doubt I will read any more in the series unless they end up in the plus catalog.

I had so much trouble sticking with this because this narrator is just rushing through it without proper emphasis or intonation. it sounds like someone reading aloud but not enjoying it or caring what it's about at all. I loved the 1st two books and was really looking forward to the conclusion. the switch of pov from hers to his with this narrator is making me think I should go back later and just read it myself to get more out of it. It has to be better than how I feel after listening to this.

I loved the characters right off the bat. The laugh out loud humor, along with the atypical story setting, made this a nice entry into an oft over done trope. Kudos to the author for a job well done. Nicely done narration added to the enjoyment. Looking forward to the 3rd Bergen Brothers story!

Let me be clear, I liked this book. I wasn't blown away, but I was engaged with the characters and the story line from beginning to end. There were times I teared up, and times I chuckled, as well as the heart warming feels you get when things go right. I recommend the book.

When this audiobook first started playing, I was struck by 2 things. The recording sounded like it was done inside a tin can, and Emma Wilder had a voice that reminded me of an over enunciating therapist. Very calm, clipped constanants, and slightly nasally vowels. When you put the voice and the tinny recording together, I kept hearing Mae West quipping, "Is that a gun in your pocket or are you happy to see me?" (Yes I'm old but she was still before my time, LOL!) Unfortunately, It's all I could hear for the rest of the book.

When Joe Arden's first chapter started, the tin can quality of the recording completely disappeared. As the book went on, I noticed that it was present during all of the female narrated chapters, and was more pronounced when she spoke more quietly, but I never heard it during the male narrated chapters.

This is a book that I think I would have liked better if I had read it vs. listening to it. Joe Arden sounded like he was having trouble catching his breath through the whole book. It was an angsty performance, so his dialogue was often read in a rush, which made it worse ( must be the cigars the character kept smoking). I didn't like his female voicings and honestly felt the same about the male voicings from the female narrator. I don't know anything about Emma Wilder, but I know Joe Arden is considered the gold standard of romance audio book narrators. In this book at least, neither of the narrators was my cup of tea.
