5 hours into an 8 hour book… is anything actually going to happen soon?

I read “Home is where the bodies are” and enjoyed it ok, so bought this one right after because it was recommended. That was a mistake, over 5 hours in to an 8 hour book and I swear… nothing has happened… you could skip all these hours and miss almost nothing. I will finish it.. if it was worth it I’ll update this review.. if I don’t…
Edit: So I finished it… I don’t want to spoil it.. but this book takes deus ex machina and beats it with a hammer. If this is your first from this author, read “Home is where the bodies are” instead.

Both bad and good, from a certain point of view.

I'm not a big reviewer, but after the glowing reviews I read, I had to chime in.
Is the story good? Kinda... if you can endure, and I do mean endure, the first 5 hours. I have never read a romantic novel, but I can imagine those hours must be what it's like to read a bad one. Lots of oddly specific descriptions of men's bodies. Rapid emotional realizations that seem too convenient. And one hugely obvious twist that I just kept wishing the book would get too.
And, once it does, you realize there's only about 3 hours left in the book for anything to actually happen. It mostly felt like a short story, stretched to fill a novel.
But when the actual story starts, and the big reveal happens (that you probably already figured out)... well that part is pretty good. Just not enough of it.

How can a series just get continually better?

After binging 6 books in a month and there is no Book 7 yet... It's an OUTRAGE! :) If you are looking at reviews for Book 6 you already know... just use the credit... a no brainer.

I need to listen to this again

Being such a short book, things happen fast.. like really fast.. so I need to listen again to make sure I caught everything… all that being said….
I liked it… I liked the setting… I liked the cousin more than the protagonist actually.
Here’s the thing.. I hate puppets, I hate dolls.. they scared me shitless as a kid and now that my girls are grown there are none in my house. So the opening of this book put me on edge right out of the gate, there was no warm up.. no kisses or hand holding.. the author has no time for foreplay.
So getting off to that start set my mind whirling, putting myself in this guys shoes, what I would do and how I would feel, and how would I get out… and it felt like we were on to the next scene.
A little jarring, but ok we only have 3 hours here and we gotta long way to go. And that continued until the end, an ending I’m ashamed to say I didn’t see coming, and had to listen to several times, and so yeah, I need to read it again. But I liked it,
Now I guess I’ll buy the Circus Tent.

How did i wait so long to read this

Never saw the movie, never considered the book. I only got bought it now because I was looking for books that Tom narrated,, but wow. That’s all i got… wow.
