For younger teens
Revisado: 01-02-21
For younger audiences than her usual fare. She’s a very talented writer and she had a good topic but she pulled the punches in my opinion. Sometimes I felt like this was meant as something to be read for a high school assignment for further discussion, vs for the general public. So be forewarned this is not similar to her usual books.

Everyone's convinced the hottest guy in school's going to ask me out - that Mason and I would be the perfect couple, that he's my John Cusack. Except, he hasn't. On holidays, I find myself hanging out with the resident underachiever, and he surprises me. With Roman, I don't have to pretend that little Piper Barlow is perfect; even if we're both in a foul mood, just sitting in silence together is perfectly enough. Until it becomes more. But, Roman doesn't do more...does he? What do you do when you accidentally find perfection with the wrong guy? You fight for it.

Could have been so much better
Revisado: 03-05-20
The performance was good, the writer knows how to write, but she needed a good editor or some beta readers, or something to turn a ho-hum story into something better.
The second half of the book drags on endlessly. The author spent way more time on secondary characters than on the primary male character/love interest. He is described as dark moody and clarity conflicted, yet not one sentence is used to explain why and to flesh out his character in even the most basic way. Too bad, some extra work and a good editor could have turned this into a good book. My personal recommendation is to save the credit.

Tessa O'Connell is a girl as ordinary as they come - or so she thinks. Her aim for senior year is to keep her head down yet somehow manage to convince her childhood love, Jay Stone, to love her back. What she isn't prepared for is for Jay's brother, Cole, to return to town and change the life she's always been seemingly content to live. Tall, gorgeous as all hell, and a bad boy with ocean blue eyes and the perfect edge of adorability, he was her greatest tormentor, her number one enemy.

Truly disappointed- stay away
Revisado: 07-19-19
I absolutely loved this book, until the extraordinarily contrived ending, that had the characters acting in a way that made absolutely no sense, and that was clearly only out there so that there would be a sequel. And from what I have read of reviews of the sequel, it’s the same contrived nonsense as the ending of the first book, and it leads to a third book, which isn’t out yet! The performance by the reader was excellent but I highly recommend you stay away and save the credit. You will be extremely frustrated by the ending, and authors should not be rewarded for such blatant manipulation of their readers

Nothing ever changes in Sanders. The town's still got a video store, for God's sake. So why doesn't Eli Teague want to leave? Not that he'd ever admit it, but maybe he's been waiting - waiting for the traveler to come back. The one who's roared into his life twice before, pausing just long enough to drop tantalizing clues before disappearing in a cloud of gunfire and a squeal of tires. The one who's a walking anachronism, with her tricorne hat, flintlock rifle, and steampunked Model A Ford.

Disappointing - waste of a great premise
Revisado: 01-01-18
This is not Mr. Clines best book, not by a longshot. The premise of the book was awesome, but Mr Clines developed it poorly. The story was confusing, the narration uneven at best. The characters were shallow, barely developed. The dialogue, which is typically a strong aspect of mr. clines’ books was at times downright annoying. The mythology was also barely developed. Overall this was a real swing and a miss in my opinion, a great idea with a lot of promise which was poorly developed. A real shame, and also disappointing because I had very much liked the author’s other works.
The book was well read, by the same reader who has performed mr. clines other books. He did his usual good job, but it was not his fault the book was sub-par. I think it’s barely worth a credit, if you have extra.

Surprisingly good
Revisado: 06-01-17
I was more than pleasantly surprised by this book. I thought it would be campy, or juvenile. It was instead thoughtful with well developed characters showing good growth, an interesting and quite unique story and plenty of suspense. I was sad that it came to an end and I'm now looking forward to the sequel. I recommend it it's a well spent credit

Disappointing
Revisado: 05-20-17
The premise and approximately the first half of the book was intriguing, but then the book quickly devolved into silliness. To me it really felt like the author had the premise in mind and then didn't quite know where to go from there. The author didn't even try to build anything that sounded remotely realistic, and the plot twists could be seen coming from a mile away. In the end to me it seemed a book aimed at young teenagers and that's it because anyone older than that should have major issues with the story. I used to like Julia Whelan's performances but her male voices are really badly done and I thought her inflection was flat. Just not a great effort all around.

A Work of art
Revisado: 10-22-16
One of the best fantasy series ever written. An example to modern writers of what can be done within the span of a trilogy, where the writer actually finishes the last book even if it takes him a couple extra years (hear that Patrick Rothfuss?). I downloaded the audio version twenty years after purchasing the first edition of the book, and I was worried that it would not be well done. Well, i no longer have to worry. The reader does an exceptional job, the narration is superb, the pacing and voices are excellent. I was transported back to Osten Ard in a wonderfully immersive experience. To those of you that are picking it up for the first time, yes it does start slowly. The first 6 hours or so are slow as Tad Williams builds his characters and worlds with care, something which will pay off in spades later. And if you can invest the first few hours, once the action starts, it will not let up, through book two and the masterpiece that is the third and last book in the series. I read a couple of reviews from people who were encountering the book for the first time worrying about the character growth of Simon. Well, if you stick with it to the end, there are few series out there that do a better job of showing the growth and maturity of characters. This is a beautiful series, one of the handful of fantasy masterpieces, and this audio edition is everything I could have hoped for. Thank you Tad Williams and Audible for bringing it to us.

Disappointing effort
Revisado: 06-11-16
I got the feeling that the target age for this series went backward with every book. And the story went with it. What had been a tight story in the Maze Runner completely devolved with this book, a pattern that had been started with the second book but became just unbearable with this one. I thought the second book was just the typical "middle book boring cross-over" that would still set up an interesting finish but it was not to be. It actually got worse. While in the second book there were scenes that at least poignant there is nothing like that here.Characters do things that don't make any sense in this book, there are constant contradictions, they go to places for no good reason, we spend inordinate amounts of time taking about what to eat, and every scene just feels so contrived. The language itself gets more simplistic, along with the scenes and the by now non-story. The narrator, not a great one to start with, does the best he can nonetheless, but even trapped in a truck on a drive from dc to anchorage I still got bored and irritated. Just a really disappointing development of a story that had started quite well in my opinion. If you haven't read the second book I would recommend saving your time and the credits for the second and third book and just stick to the maze runner

After narrowly surviving two harrowing tragedies, Jules now fully understands the importance of the visions that she and people around her are experiencing. She's convinced that if the visions passed from her to Sawyer after she saved him, then they must now have passed from Sawyer to one of the people he saved. That means it's up to Jules to figure out which of the school shooting survivors is now suffering from visions of another crisis.

Predictable but still enjoyable
Revisado: 10-16-15
I liked this series. Like her previous series it was innovative and interesting, with well depicted characters and brisk pacing. Unlike her previous series it was not thoroughly depressing in the end. My only issue with the third book is that I saw every turn in the story come from a mile away. And there was much that could have been developed so much more. But of course that's the problem with YA stories in general. Overall however I still enjoyed the book, it kept me interested and entertained, and it was a good conclusion to the series. She's a good writer with unusual ideas which she develops well. I look forward to her next effort.

The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

Excellent, even though similar to 14
Revisado: 06-21-15
I really enjoyed the book. I knew the author from 14, which I enjoyed immensely. I wish his books were a bit longer, the characters are really interesting and the story really could be fleshed out so much more. However it's just as good as 14, great story, funny dialogue, plenty of suspense, great pacing. I highly recommend it. The reader also read 14 and he does a superb job for this type of story. If I have to have any negative notes, it's that in the end there are a lot of similarities to the 14 underlying story. Clearly it's a concept that intrigues the author and I can't blame him, it fascinates me as well. I think this is a credit well spent
