EVERYONE should read this book.

As a victim of domestic and intimate partner violence, it is helping me so much. I gave it to one of my abusers and she has been deeply effected. Our relationship is better now than it ever has been.
It even helped me interact with the abusers that have refused to read this book (including those who have openly refused to stop the violence). Im almost excited to respond to the next boundary violetion......... almost.

Historia
F. Scott Fitzgerald makes antebellum Baltimore his setting for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, a fantastical tale with some Poe-like overtones about a baby born at age 70 who then lives life in reverse, his hair turning "in the dozen years of his life from white to iron-gray, the network of wrinkles on his face becoming less pronounced". What ramifications that creates for Benjamin's relationship with his father first and then later with his wife and his own son makes for some fantastical situations.

Big Yikes.
Revisado: 08-23-21
What an sad and upsetting book. If you have medical PTSD it might be a bit triggering.
While the titular case is not a real disease, it is reminiscent of people with progeria disease. It was hard to get through while remembering how people have treated me because of my disability.
its a mean book filled with mean people. great narrator though.

Proto-twillight zone
Revisado: 01-06-21
Good story, not spectacular, but interesting enough as a bit of science fiction history. unlike his other stories that remain fresh to this day, this short story has not remained culturally relevant. Reads like a proto-twilight zone episode.

Historia
It's Christmas and the well-born guests who have gathered at Applecross for a delicious weekend of relaxation are warmed by roaring fires, mistletoe, and gorgeously wrapped gifts. It's scarcely the setting for misfortune, and no one - not even that clever young aristocrat and budding sleuth Vespasia Cumming-Gould - anticipates the tragedy that is to darken this light-hearted holiday house party. But soon one young woman lies dead, a suicide, and Vespasia must uncover the heartbreaking truth behind the tragedy.

Suddenly Jesus
Revisado: 12-18-20
I was not prepared for the sudden turn to Jesus in the last few minutes.
Its trying very hard to be a Jane Austin style Victorian high society uninspirrd characters and a dull story prevented it from being enjoyable for me
I did like the main character and her mentor, but I found the rest of the characters grating and iritating. the story never got me, but the descriptions of the scottish country could have saved it but that part of the story is rushed over for gossip. Being a huge fan of a Christmas carol I had hoped in choosing this book to find the character to have learned a lesson at the end of of the book. Nope. Just a sudden mini sermon. Bah humbug

My only real complain is that the book is far far too short. I would have enjoyed more quotations, or at least some historical, geographic, or contextual background information.

Guns, germs, and steel might have transformed us from hunter-gatherers into modern man, but booze, sex, trash talk, and tripping built our civilization. Cracked editor Robert Evans brings his signature dogged research and lively insight to uncover the many and magnificent ways vice has influenced history, from the prostitute-turned-empress who scored a major victory for women's rights to the beer that helped create - and destroy - South America's first empire.

There have been many authors discussing intoxicants effects on history, this is the most entertaining by far.

I could really enjoy the actors. The voices were never too silly or overacting so even as an adult I could enjoy it. Wish it were twice as long!

Historia
Deep in the African rain forest, near the legendary ruins of the Lost City of Zinj, an expedition of eight American geologists are mysteriously and brutally killed in a matter of minutes. Ten thousand miles away, Karen Ross, the Congo Project Supervisor, watches a gruesome video transmission of the aftermath: a camp destroyed, tents crushed and torn, equipment scattered in the mud alongside dead bodies - all motionless except for one moving image - a grainy, dark, man-shaped blur.

It's fine for someone who really likes Chriton, but it's not his best work, it feels very dated in its depiction of Africa. Great narration.

Well paced, entertaining, with a few minor issues
Revisado: 01-03-16
Would you consider the audio edition of A Christmas Carol: A Signature Performance by Tim Curry to be better than the print version?
The purpose of this audio book is to be a performance of the book by Tim Curry, in no way do i think his performance could be enjoyed via text.
What other book might you compare A Christmas Carol: A Signature Performance by Tim Curry to and why?
Nothing compares to A Christmas Carol, not even other Dickens works!
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Tim Curry's Scrooge is a whiney toned and rather sniviling, which are two qualities i would not associate with Scrooge
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Tim Curry staring as all of the character in, A christmas Carol. Truth be told that doesnt sound too bad!!!
Any additional comments?
Honestly The consistent whine of Scrooge can get grating, despite its short three hour length.
