It only took 7 books.
Revisado: 04-20-25
Look who is FINALLY using his brains? It only took 7 books.
Finally realizing that bullets will eventually run out, and you'll have to use your mana going forward. Everyone who is using it consistently will be at a massive advantage to all those who are not. They'll just be victims.
As for the MC. He is still a "Fortunate Fool" in my opinion. Wish some of those charisma points worked on the reader and made him more charming, but alas, he remains a Fortunate Fool. A fool that never realized he always had a simple solution to fights he finds himself in, and the reason he keeps getting messed up, is mostly do to the fact that he wasnt to place himself within arms reach! SMGDH. Its like you can't buy this guy a clue. Everyone keeps telling him, he is the "Dungeon Lord", if he dies, then all the progress they have been making, stops, and possibly dies with him. "STOP RUNNING TO THE FRONT OF THE ATTACK!"
SMGDH. He searches so hard to find a reason why he 'has to' go up there and swing his hammer or sword at the enem, when instead he should've been looking to understand his powers, and how it works and all it can do, and everything it is connected to, and that way, he would've realized he didn't even need to be within a mile of the battle, and could've just annilathed all his foes with a sweep of his hand, just like he FINALLY realized he did here, and could've done all along. But instead he didn't want to use his brain, and wanted to smack everything with a hammer.
SMH. Sooooo frustrating.

UGGHH The main characters head is a bag of rocks.
Revisado: 04-08-25
Im sorry, but I said what I said. This guy is dummmbbb. A true Nimrod. Bro, USE YOUR ABILITES!!! Conceptualize them! LEARN THEM! Then get creative with them! You'll go a lot further with them than a Flipping Hammer! Who you think you are, THOR?! He only survived his enemies because it was a comic book! If you plan on still using guns and a hammer to pick off your enemies one by one, instead of outstanding your power and wiping them off the map a thousand at a time, then my verdict of this MC, stands! He's a moron!

From the depths of despair to the pinnacle of power, Matt's ascension to Dungeon Lord has been a crucible of blood and terror. But the higher he climbs, the more precarious his perch becomes. As winter's fingers close around his hard-won domain, Matt and his beleaguered allies yearn for respite. Instead, they face a nightmare beyond imagining. The Coronaught infection sweeps through the land like wildfire, twisting human flesh into abominations that defy sanity. Grotesque mutations stalk the shadows, their hunger insatiable. In this maelstrom of horror, Matt must be more than a leader.

MC is still shortsighted
Revisado: 04-08-25
This is book 6, as readers we should be well within our rights to expect some kind of intellectual growth' in our character(s) we read and especially the Main character. The one we spend the most time with. Yet we are severely lacking in that department.
Especially when it comes to his magic abilities. Honestly, when it comes to that alone, he is a complete dunce. And keeps blaming his cat familiar for his own ineptidue, in his ability to grasp simple concepts! The simplest of all being, that HE IS A MAGE/CASTER, yet only seems to want to use guns and melee weapons to deal with his enemies as they constantly swarm him with their armies.
How many times bus it be stated to him that he is 'THE LORD OF STORMS'? How many times? Call in a tornado! Use your lightning. Think along the concepts of your abilities, and not some hammer or pocket knife you keep running around with!
What make it worse is, he seems to be the one leading everyone on how to use their magic, yet is the one most blind to the uses of his own. As matter of fact, most people who have been taught by him, have already surpassed him and took over teaching, and he STILL at the same skill level as he was in in book 2. Thats 5 books ago! FIVE! Worse the hypocrisy of it all is, he is also the one that constantly reminds people that the 'old world is gone' and that they need to adapt to the new way of doing things, yet is also the one who seems to be the absolute slowest in grasping those 'new concepts', especially that of his OWN MAGIC! SMGDH.
Not only that, every mission, he's the one who needs to be carried back on a stretcher. WHy? Because everyone else has figured out that maybe, just maybe, its not a good idea to throw yourself into the middle of a swarm of enemies only swinging a hammer, like the god of 'morons'. It's more than past time he learn from all the examples around him. Then maybe, just maybe, he could do what everyone else on your team is doing and use their abilities like they were meant to be used, and 'cast' magic at a distance! Because, look at them after every battle and look at yourself. They seem to be tired and dirty, while he seems to be near death, unsure whether he is going to live or die this time. SMGDH.
Honestly, if you are carrying the keys to everyone's salvation, maybe don't be the moron who constantly throws out his brain and jumps in the middle of a swarm of enemies with naught but a hammer?!
The series is almost done, and it looks like our only payoff for following along this long is that somewhere before the end the MC will finally use the muscles in his head instead of his biceps and finally use his power as intended. SMGDH.
Im sorry, but that is much, much too small of a pay off for me to continue to support this.

Steve and Ingrid have escaped the clutches of Athena, but Steve is still learning, both about his place in the world, and his capabilities...not to mention those of the creatures that surround him. Ingrid, too, must find her way in the new reality she finds her world has become, and the pair need a plan. Fortunately, Ingrid’s a lot brighter than Steve, and she’s had plenty of time to plan, to observe, and to build up a festering hatred of her "betters". Steve’s going recruiting—and harvesting. Greece is in for a hell of a surprise.

Another Fortunate Fool for an MC
Revisado: 03-31-25
Here we go again. We read another series by Jez and once again are faced with his stereotypical 'Fortunate Fool' for a main character.
Basically, A complete blockhead, got lucky once more. Essentially your sterotypical redmeat only, Jock and Jarhead, whose only solution to any problem is curse and insult it as much as possible, while hitting it over and over till you get your way, it gives up, or it dies. A complete and utter moron in every other aspect of life, that is luckily handsome enough that his brainy girlfriend overlooks all of his many, many, many, shortcomings. A modern day Neanderthal.
As for his education... lets just say, there are about 30 sentences (12 minutes) that are clean. Meaning out of the this entire audiobook, only in these 30 sentences, the Main character isn't cussing, swearing, or dropping f-bombs,
Too bad none of his upgrades, upgrades the only part of the MC you wish he would change!

Historia
Possibly it's not to save a pair of drowning girls, not go 'viral' on social media and certainly not to let the local police take your passport, trapping you on a small 'party' island in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. But Steve isn't the average guy, he's ex-military, ex-enforcer and ex-human. He's a one man nanite fuelled nightmare for those that cross the line, and he's decided that its time to clean up his act. He's going to make up for the things he's done, and save 'the little guys'.

Good, possibly on the way to Great!
Revisado: 03-27-25
I had this book years ago, got rid of it, because my mind wasn't ready for it, then picked it up again recently when I was in the right headspace, and let me tell you, my review would've been much different back then. Back then I would've been ranting about this, that, and a third; but now I can absolutely say, this is worth the read.
Only complaint would be the MC. The only time he doesn't sound like a low IQ muppet, is when he is in a fight, and or really clear on what he wants to do. I just wish there was more of that, instead we get his signature empty-headed response to every question being ask of him, the same long drawn out "Ahhhhhhh..." before he says anything. Other than THAT annoyance, everything else was good.
Forget questions, now that I think bout it, "Ahhhh..." is how he begins his own sentences! All of them! Is fricking annoying.
Honestly, that alone was probably the one thing that stopped this book from being 'Great'.

Revisado: 12-20-24
Round of applause. Excellent Series. Benedict Jacka Knows how to write.
-------
Wow... what a character arc for most of these characters. Amazing development. But I have to say, He did A LOT of backsliding in his growth from the previous book. In the last book he really matured, this book he seemed to have taken two or three steps back into his 'unsure what to do, and awkward' self.
He would ask people, "Whats going on here?" "When are we going to do...." "Where are we going to.... " Where is the attack going to be..." And I would sit there like... BRO? Why you asking anyone anything? You've been a diviner for all your life, and now you have an imbued item that controls the outcome of events... So FIND OUT YOURSELF!
What makes it even worse is when people respond the same way, telling him the same thing. "Are you supposed to know?" After acquiring that 'arm', there shouldn't be a signal situation the MC doesn't know the outcome of before entering it. Yet that all the situations he seems to be finding himself in, and that is mostly because of the 'backslide' in assertiveness he did from the end of the previous book.
Any way, Great great job!

Historia
Stormy Bay is a dying town nestled against an eerily placid ocean, and Ray Lilly is trapped in it. He can barely remember his name let alone his mission for the Twenty Palace society. Worse, he realizes that for some time now he's been living as a puppet, his body and mind under the complete domination of an unknown power, and the townsfolk think this puppet is his real identity. And that power can still seize control of Ray's body at any time, forcing him and the people around him to playact in nonsense stories that center around a mysterious boy and his monster dog.

Massive "Where am I"? How did I get here?"
Revisado: 11-13-24
I am asking myself the same thing.
This has got to the 'slowest' of the series so far. SMH. A real snooze. Good sleep aid. A lot of 'Detective work' happening, just for the author to realize you can't follow all the crazy and just tells you what's going on. Essentially wasted the time of anyone who did try to pay attention, which should be few people because, it is a real snooze fest like I said before.

Okay, so I'm in trouble. Big trouble. I'm broke. Worse, my boyfriend of five years just dumped me. What do I do? I move in with my three eccentric aunts in their family home, Davenport House. Sounds exciting, only this massive farmhouse likes to eat men. If I were a regular human, I would have run out screaming like a banshee. As a witch - I do absolutely nothing. Hey, maybe they deserved it? I'm back in Hollow Cove, the flamboyant paranormal community, where nymphs, werewolves, trolls, shifters, witches, and other paranormals live comfortable lives away from prying human eyes.
