Not Funny, Just Depressing
Revisado: 01-02-23
A sad view of life over 50. Painful to hear. I bought this book looking for levity, trying to take a break from politics, religion, and current events. Instead this book is a dark view on aging while pontificating on current events and the state of the union. Save your money. A total disappointment that leaves you depressed. Returning this title.

Historia
A chance encounter at a summer party on Martha’s Vineyard blossomed into an improbable but enduring friendship. Carly Simon and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis made an unlikely pair - Carly, a free and artistic spirit still reeling from her recent divorce, searching for meaning, new love, and an anchor; and Jackie, one of the most celebrated, meticulous, unknowable women in American history. Nonetheless, over the next decade their lives merged in inextricable and complex ways, and they forged a connection deeper than either could ever have foreseen.

If You Love Carly....
Revisado: 11-18-19
This is the book for you. More about Carly Simon and her experiences than about JO. Jackie is more the foil to Carly than anything else. I found this book to be a lot more revealing in terms of CS’s inner workings than her previous memoir. Being a huge fan of CS since childhood, I really enjoyed the book as I learned a lot about CS and who she is and how she thinks. I loved it. However, if you’re looking for a book on Jacqueline Onassis, this may not be the one.

Historia
Set between the Upper East Side of Manhattan and a country enclave known as The Village, Is There Still Sex in the City? gathers Bushnell’s signature short, sharp, satirical commentaries on the love and dating habits of middle-aged men and women as they continue to navigate ever-modernizing relationships. Throughout, Bushnell documents 21st-century dating phenomena, such as the “Unintended Cub Situation” in which a sensible older woman suddenly becomes the love interest of a much younger man, and what it’s really like to go on Tinder dates as a 50-something divorcee.

The Answer is Yes... But...
Revisado: 08-18-19
This is a frank account of some women’s experience in their fifties. I thought it was an honest and humorous take on a stage of life that isn’t always that funny. She captures the disappointments and hopes of women as they begin to transition from the second act of life to the third act. Sex and the City grows up. Frank and interesting. Ms. Bushnell did a great job of opening up and making herself quite vulnerable to her audience. Her candor is appreciated.

Historia
Reporter Diana Marcum is in crisis. A long-buried personal sadness is enfolding her - and her career is stalled - when she stumbles upon an unusual group of immigrants living in rural California. She follows them on their annual return to the remote Azores islands in the Atlantic Ocean, where bulls run down village streets, volcanoes are active, and the people celebrate festas to ease their saudade, a longing so deep that the Portuguese word for it can’t be fully translated.

If you have insomnia, this is the book for you. An unengaging story from a writer who really needs more life experience before putting pen to paper.

Historia
In his first novel to follow the publication of his enormous success, The Grapes of Wrath, Steinbeck's vision comes wonderfully to life in this imaginative and unsentimental chronicle of a bus traveling California's back roads, transporting the lost and the lonely, the good and the greedy, the stupid and the scheming, the beautiful and the vicious away from their shattered dreams and, possibly, toward the promise of the future. This edition features an introduction by Gary Scharnhorst.

Character development superb and story engaging. Steinbeck gets into every character’s mind and shows humanity for what it is. No apologies. A great read.

Perception is the foundation of human experience, but few of us understand why we see what we do, much less how. By revealing the startling truths about the brain and its perceptions, Beau Lotto shows that the next big innovation is not a new technology: It is a new way of seeing. In his first major book, Lotto draws on over two decades of pioneering research to explain that our brain didn't evolve to see the world accurately. It can't!

Much to Think About
Revisado: 04-22-18
This is a well written a book that presents a lot of valuable information in an understandable way. I will certainly consider much of what the author describes and suggests in the text. My only criticism is while the author is very well-versed in his field, he should have let a professional actor perform his book. His reading is at times difficult to understand and he tends to mumble his words from time to time. Someone with more proficiency in the area of performing audiobooks would have been welcome. Other than that, the content of the book is excellent.

Is there a science to love? In this groundbreaking audiobook, psychiatrist and neuroscientist Amir Levine and psychologist Rachel S. F. Heller reveal how an understanding of attachment theory - the most advanced relationship science in existence today - can help us find and sustain love. Attachment theory forms the basis for many best-selling books on the parent/child relationship, but there has yet to be an accessible guide to what this fascinating science has to tell us about adult romantic relationships - until now.

Change Title to Settle
Revisado: 02-25-18
If you want to live a passionless life, this is the book to read. The authors attempt to simplify the very complex and intricate world of falling in love by creating three personality types. This is not credible and enormously simplistic. I can see being avoidant, anxious, or stable depending on the person to whom I am attracted.. But at the point where the authors say that we can basically force ourselves to fall in love with a stable person, they lost me completely. That is a sure-fire formula for settling for someone you don’t love. It should be that simple. One cannot force love. The mysteries of love will always continue, despite wanting to pigeonhole personality types . A great attempt, but ultimately a failure.
