Not for me
Revisado: 11-11-24
This title isn't for me. I didn't think it was very well written and the story didn't grab me much. At best it's "Fine" as a litrpg, but I wouldn't spend a credit unless you are just waiting for the next book in your main series.
One humorous thing I want to mention is that the story contains multiple instances where the protagonist's ride gets threatened to be stolen or destroyed. At first it was the bike rickshaw, then the bus with the military people, then the T*sla as they're leaving the forest, then the same car again a few chapters later, tertiary bad guy threatening to blow up a mcguffin in the truck, etc. And that's just by other people, not including the dragon attacking their car/bus/truck. I know it's petty, but come on, there's gotta be different scenarios to ratchet tension than your car being stolen by another set of bad guys with German accents. The book is not even about riding in cars, but base building a castle!
Another pit trap the author falls into is having the MC put all points into Int. I haven't seen this trope done well. At worst the character just becomes insufferable with all the predictions and trap cards they pull out of nowhere, and at best they're just as smart as the author which (let's face it) is pretty much just human level.

Historia
At the heart of a bizarre planet lay the goal of every being that had ever lived.… Below average in height and unprepossessing in appearance, Nathan Brazil is an unassuming if cynical starship owner, carrying passengers and cargo for a living - hardly the sort of person to hold the fate of the entire universe in his hands. But when Nathan detours from his route to answer a distress call, a hidden stargate hurls him and his passengers to the Well World, the master control planet for the cosmos. Billions of years ago, a godlike race unlocked all the secrets of space and time and remade the universe according to their grand design.

Again for the second time.
Revisado: 03-01-24
I've read the whole series 20 years ago and picked this up on a whim. I would definitely recommend it today, even with a few dated caveats. I didn't pick up on the religious angles before, and the ending is somewhat telegraphed, but overall it's still a solid sci-fi story. The mystery is interesting, and the near constant gender/species fluidity is even progressive for the time, pronouns and all. The VO could have used some variety, but it grew on me by the end and I could distinguish characters which is serviceable.
The whole midnight thing is still corny though!

Historia
Simon can only watch, helpless, as his family is killed and his friends captured by enemy Travelers—men and women who can summon mystical powers from otherworldly Territories. To top it off, another young man from Simon's village discovers that he's a savior prophesied to destroy evil and save the realm. Prophecy has nothing to say about Simon. He has no special powers, no magical weapons, and no guarantee that he'll survive. But he sets off anyway, alone, to gain the power he needs to oppose the Travelers and topple their ruthless Overlord.

No idea where this was going.
Revisado: 06-28-22
This story and its associated concepts feel disconnected and disjointed. Was the author going for something different and got sidetracked? A lot of buildup in some areas and not enough in others, characters come and go and we form no attachments to them or know why they exist, things happen and are not explained or are slated to be explained in the next book, locations and factions exist in unclear relation to each other (spacial and political).
There's also the "adversity training" trope I dislike where the protagonist gains great combat skills by spending a month or two in a hostile environment. This isn't how you get a trained swordsman, it's how you psychologically destroy a child and create trust issues.
Outside of that it kind of reads like a typical YA novel. The narrator is top tier as usual. If this is your first Will Wight book, give Cradle a chance, it's better in all ways.

Historia
For years, the ancient alien AI known as Skippy (the Magnificent, don’t forget that part) has been able to do one impossible thing after another. What is his secret? It’s simple: 100 percent Grade-A extreme awesomeness. And also because he had never been faced with an opponent of equal power. Until now. This time, he might need a little help from a band of filthy monkeys.

Boring and irrelevant
Revisado: 06-17-22
Maybe 2 hours worth of story and yet another cliff ending. The story felt phoned-in and not very cohesive or interesting until the last hour or so. Lots of reversals and "you've activated my trap card, but actually the trap was a reverse trap (or was it)" tropes. Honestly, if you've stuck around this long, might as well pick it up. However, if this is your last credit and you want some good story to tide you over until the next, do not buy. You will be disappointed.

Historia
Sancia Grado is a thief, and a damn good one. And her latest target, a heavily guarded warehouse on Tevanne’s docks, is nothing her unique abilities can’t handle. But unbeknownst to her, Sancia’s been sent to steal an artifact of unimaginable power, an object that could revolutionize the magical technology known as scriving. The Merchant Houses who control this magic - the art of using coded commands to imbue everyday objects with sentience - have already used it to transform Tevanne into a vast, remorseless capitalist machine.

Struggled to finish and gave up with 6 hours left. Pacing is interrupted with needless details of the magic system while the world building is half done. Not what I'm looking for, unfortunately.

Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body. Arrogant Masters? Heavenly Tribulations? All that violence and bloodshed? Yeah, no thanks. I’m getting out of here. Farm life sounds pretty great. Tilling a field by hand is fun when you’ve got the strength of ten men—though maybe I shouldn’t have fed those Spirit Herbs to my pet rooster.

Funny slice of life xianxia. Honestly, I was hoping for more tropes and hijinks and less relationship stuff, but my eyes cannot see mount Tai even though they are wide open. I won't court death or risk coughing up blood by making unreasonable demands of my elders. Looking forward to the next one!

Casting necromancy without ever learning how to isn't supposed to be possible. A starving orphan girl named Vita is somehow managing it anyway, and she's not sure if this is going to be the solution to her life's problems or a horrifying, spiraling mess of problems she can hardly conceive.

Historia
A teenage mage of humble birth and slightly above-average skill, Zorian is attending his third year of education at Cyoria's magical academy. A driven and quiet young man, he is consumed by a desire to ensure his own future and free himself of the influence of his family, resenting the Kazinskis for favoring his brothers over him. Consequently, Zorian has no time for pointless distractions, much less other people's problems.

Good story, meh narration, bad cliffhanger.
Revisado: 12-28-21
My main issue with this book is the choice of narrator. Voraces is ok for some things (Derelict/Vainquer), but not for stories with a diverse cast of many characters, especially when voicing multiple women. Again, I have no problem with Jack, he's a cool guy and has improved greatly. I just don't like random accents, annoying kid voices (ugh kill me), and... what even was that voice for spiders? And lastly, I noticed a hesitant hitch to the narration that was persistent throughout. Not awful, but very noticeable even in the sample audio.
Maybe it's just me.
I'll still buy the next one.

Historia
Civil war looms in the Bobiverse in this brand-new, epic-length adventure by Audible number one best seller Dennis E. Taylor. More than a hundred years ago, Bender set out for the stars and was never heard from again. There has been no trace of him despite numerous searches by his clone-mates. Now Bob is determined to organize an expedition to learn Bender’s fate - whatever the cost. But nothing is ever simple in the Bobiverse. Bob’s descendants are out to the 24th generation now, and replicative drift has produced individuals who can barely be considered Bobs anymore.

Just...kinda boring.
Revisado: 10-02-20
A vague threat revealed at the end of a book about a different vague threat. Maybe I didn't mind it so much before, but the scientific word salad is just unnecessary and probably confusing for most people not steeped in Sci-fi. I dunno, maybe I'm over Bobs as a concept... it wouldn't take much to devise relativistic weapons if you're divergent enough and I sure as hell wouldn't trust them not to eventually do it.
